Forums - Nintendo - Capcom Forecast Monster Hunter 4 is 2.8mil in 7 Months of Release? Too Easy Right?

Monster Hunter Will Surpass 2.8mil...

Within 1 Month of Release O.o 9 18.37%

By End of Oct 5 10.20%

By End of Nov 7 14.29%

By End of 2013 10 20.41%

Within Jan-March 2014 7 14.29%

It wont make it, cuz of Trololo :0 11 22.45%

Total:49

I imagine 2.8 million sales is ridiculously profitable for a game like Monster Hunter. Can't imagine they spend that much on development. Not suggesting the game is poor quality, just that 3DS isn't that expensive to develop for.

3 million times 20 dollars. ( have no idea what they get back after paying retailers and other fees) 60 million first week in what they get. Not too shabby. 100 million by Christmas in take home.

Crazy that movies cost as much as 200-250 million sometimes. This will be a big budget for a 3DS game, but still will not be close to that I hope.

Tbone, you know you want to agree with me with this 3 million first week thing. You went all out for the 20 million 3DS this year, why not this?

20 million was plausible for the 3DS at the time. Monster Hunter had just been pushed from a March release date to "summer." Who would have guessed that meant the very last week of summer?

3 million first week, that's just nonsense.

It would have sold more on vita

*Look's at Vita's hardware #'s in Japan*

1.75 million

*Look's at 3DS hardware #'s in Japan*

12.08 million

Even if the Vita had a 100% attachment rate with this game, MH4 will probably sell more than the entire VITA LTD # in Japan in a very short time.

You guys will likely get the G version later, but this 1st one selling more on Vita rather than the 3DS is pretty much undoable.

Will it play better? Debatable (looking at the console versions). But in terms of sales, when 3G for 3DS in Japan pretty much outsold the Vita HW numbers there, unless there is a more than 100% attach ratio at the Vita's current install base, it can't sell more. For it to even reach 3 million, the Vita numbers would have to double and the game would need to have an attach ratio of near 90%.

Now as for why Capcom did this, now that's a another topic.

(Personally I think it has something to do with the penetration of the Western market considering how much marketing $$ was put on 3 and 3G here, and Vita was unsuited to the task coming off the PSP. Of course there are the rumored falling outs with Sony over P3rdHD or Nintendo $$)

Not sure if Pokemon and MH releasing so close to each other will impact both games' sales positively or negatively though.

yeaaaaa... Not really lol, sure their are vita only owners that want it but i doubt all 1.75mil vita owners will get it, also mh3g outsold the entire vita user base O.o, no way vita>3ds in sales!

if MonHun 3g was on Vita instead and 4 was coming to Vita i could see this selling just as good as the 3ds MonHun 4 thats actually happening. Vita HW would probs be at 5 mil by years end too. however Capcom chose Nintendo and tbh i think they made the smarter choice money wise, Sony would have been better to push the game to new heights technically.

If they predict low and it sales high then it makes them look good I guess.

But they want to predict higher sales because lofty numbers appeal to stockholders, the people they really care about pleasing.

Well 2.8 million in Japan only isn't "exactly" low for a game.

That's just a little over half of what MHP3 did. 2.8 million would be pretty bad.

It's generally better to under promise and over deliver.  Capcom actually said (when talking about disappointing figures for RE6 actually) that their predictions are typically half of what they really expect to sell internally so they have some room.  Not that I think they expect it to sell 5.6 in 7 months.  Anyway, as pleased as stock holders would be to hear you say you're going to sell 4 million copies in seven months, they'll be even more pleased when you tell them you're going to sell 2.8 million and then sell 4.

While that works in hindsight and the worst case is going under expectations, so by setting the bar low, you cover your ass. That said, with setting the bar low you also communicate that you don't have much confidence in the game. While MH4 is almost certain to do over, the move just seems super blatant.

sooo? we cant always do wat the highest was cuz itsnot fair, MH3G on 3ds is the third highest selling MH in japan despite its 1.91mil to the top 2 sellers 4.2mil/4.8mil. Its like saying MKWii has 34mil and if MK8 does 10mil its bad, no its not, its still much higher than other MK's. Same can be said with pokemon, the very first did 32mil, every games has done 15mil-18mil after that (aside from gold/silver 22mil), but thats actually very good. 2.8mil would put mh4 in a great position but in reality its going to easily push over 3mil. In which case its successful if it at least does 3mil lifetime(obviously going to do more). :P
