Forums - Nintendo - Now what is the biggest reason you are on the fence about getting the Wii U?

I do remember my grand mothers playing duck hunt and world class track meet. Very core titles. One of which is one of the best selling games on the system.

nope ur obviously lying, old people couldnt possibly begin to fathom the complex controls and visuals of NES games

U act like the Wii and motion controls werent a big deal

I'm strictly talking about hard core gaming.

Wasnt NES pretty casual back in the day?

You ever see old people in nursing homes playing Ninja Gaiden, Kid Icarus and/or the first Metroid? lol. Hell, people who've never plays games in their entire life probably couldn't even get to the first castle in SMB lol.

U ever see people in nursing homes playing Monster Hunter Tri, Xenoblade Chronicles, Metroid Prime 3?

Three great games that were absolutely outsold by Wii Sports, play and Fit.

Ninja Gaiden, Kid Icarus and Metroid are three great game that were absolutely outsold by Super Mario Bros, Duck Hunt and Tetris

A 70 year old non gamer couldn't play those three games either lol.

Are you serious? U dont think an old non gamer could play Duck Hunt or Tetris? If u honestly believe that then u are extremely ignorant

If by play you mean push a button and make something happen, sure. But to me, if someone can't be given a game and controller and figure it out really quick all on their own? Then it's not a casual game. There's not one non gamer on earth, someone who hasn't played a video game in their life, that can pick up SMB or Tetris and get get to the castle or get to level 3 in Tetris. But I promise you, there is someone who can flick their wrist in Wii Sports bowling and fluke a few strikes. I've SEEN this happen with my own two eyes.

The fact is, NES games are known as some of the hardest games ever made. Even SMB would be too hard for today's kids. You get three lives, no continues. Make it to level 8 and lose that last life? DONE. Can NSMB and NSMB U claim that? Hell no!! If you want challenge like the NES days, you have to go third party and play games like Super Meat Boy. So enough of this NES is casual CRAP, because that's BS.

well, i already have a wii u and am buying a ps4 as I can afford both, or should I say my girlfriend wont stop me. If she did I'd dump her...

I can see the dilemma though cos, while i consider myself as big a nintendo fan as anyone, the last 3 gens Ive owned both a nintendo and sony console and the nintendo console always ends up as my secondary system usually reserved for the one or two killer 1st party games that come out here and there...meanwhile I need the sony (insert number here) to play all the other games during those 1-2 year gaps... and Im pretty sure already this gen is gonna be exactly the same. Every nintendo fan should know by now this is nothing new after 20+ years of this treatment.
For what it's worth i gotta say I know the wii u has had a rocky start (esp for we who purchased it day one) but Im glad I bought the damn thing now as it's ok presently.

Im sure there are people who can hold the NES Zapper and luckily shoot a few ducks. Super Mario Bros may be harder than many games these days but no game sells 40 million without casual appeal. Tetris most definitely had casual appeal, a huge chunk of mobile games are similar to Tetris and isnt that where people claim the casuals went? Tetris was specifically bundled with the Gameboy because it appealed to every demographic.

All three of those games can be picked up and played and most would understand the concept in a few minutes. Point the gun at the screen and pull the trigger, run to the right and jump, turn the piece so it fits. These are all easily accessible games.

Yes NES had a ton of hardcore games but so does Wii. Xenoblade, Monster Hunter, Sin & Punishment, Metroid, Zelda, Red Steel, No More Heroes, Resident Evil, Dead Space, Dead Rising, Call of Duty, Conduit, Madworld, Bully, Manhunt, Fire Emblem, Battalion Wars, GoldenEye, Pandoras Tower, Last Story, Cursed Mountain, Silent Hill, Tastsunoku vs Capcom, Lost in Shadow, Little Kings Story, Final Fantasy, Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia, Dragon Quest, Soul Calibur, the list goes on.

This whole argument started because u said Wii wasnt a core gaming console, I just listed 30 core video gam series and I missed a ton of them. Yes Wii had a ton of casual appeal but had plenty of games directed at core gamers. NES had a ton of core games but there is no denying it had alot of casual appeal.

You expressed my dilema perfectly. I will have a Wii U and the Wii was my first generation without a Nintendo console by choice. I have supported them every generation since...well...as far back as I can literally remember. Three generations Nintendo has lacked third party support, and I understand why now, but I still like their first party.

Ya N64 and Wii had pretty bad 3rd party support but GC got most of the multiplats.

I didnt care about the N64 having low multiplats because I loved the exclusives. Wave Race? Zelda 64? Mario 64? Mario Kart 64? You can't replace things like that, especially when I was that age. Thats when gaming was just fun, there was no drama, the internet had not yet matured and kids could just be kids. I learned to accept Nintendo without third party support. People think I dislike Nintendo, but that couldn't be further from the truth. The quality of the N64 first party ran circles around the Wii imho. I had a Playstation for everything else.

Every analyst or report I've seen seems to agree with me that the Wii U will be another GC. I personally have no problem with that.

Sometimes I get carried away with the gold ol' Nintendo memories. GC got decent multiplat support though.

Haha no worries, I couldnt tell if that was supposed to be an argument to what I said or just a random rant
