Forums - Microsoft - Titanfall designer on Xbox exclusivity: "Microsoft is like the Apple of videogames"

LOL this place is awesome to read sometimes.

Sony has a bunch of timed exclusive games on stage at their E3 conference, the response is wow, Sony awesome at supporting games. Sony moneyhats fir a game like Journey, no problem.

MS does those things and everyone starts crying. Never change, VGC.

Certainly not crying on my end. If I can BF3 and Arma 3 on my PC. Good bet I can Titanfall as well. Not going to btw.

I am simply saying I would prefer people/companies to be honest. Stop the PR B.S.

Don't remember Epic doing this everytime a new Gears came out.

Look at Dice. Sony had DLC deal for BF3. Dice comes out and says how useful the cell is and blah blah blah. Only 3rd party to say that lol. Sony gave them money, and Dice polished Sony's knob

Now same thing kind of. Microsoft makes DLC deal for BF4. Dice talks up Xbox One. Microsoft gives them money, Dice polished Microsofts knob.

EA decided to ally with Microsoft. They liked the Xbox One before the 1080. If everyone rather believe they did so because of cloud computing and not DRM... fine. If you believe it's not Microsoft giving money but rather dedi servers... thats fine too

Why on Earth would any company not use PR? Complaining and being upset that a company uses PR is like complaining and being upset that companies charge money for their products/services.

We don't know the extent of the financial incentive MS gave Respawn/EA to make this deal. But regardless of what it is, after a company secures the game in whatever exclusive form it is in, how is either party better off using honesty? If Respawn comes out and says "hey MS did such and such so its exclusive", then less people will buy it for the Microsoft products, be it 360, Xbone, or Windows. And this will make not only MS, but every other publisher, less likely to make deals with Respawn because they damaged the Titanfall deal. It's just good old common sense.

Furthermore, Respawn HAS said MS gave them financial incentive. They have said numerous times they went to both Sony and MS, and MS gave them the dedicated server deal that made the most financial sense. Now, this could also mean an exclusive deal was reached, or it could mean the price difference in servers could make the PS4/PS3 port not feasible at all. We don't know. But there's no reason for either company to speak about it.

They showcased 8 downloadable titles debuting first on PS4.

Oh, man. I bet Galak-Z cost them a pretty penny!

I'm sure that couldn't have anything to do with Sony giving the option to self publish when Microsoft doesn't.

Like I already said, it's cool when Sony does it, bitter tears when MS does it. Thanks for confirming my point ;)

If you really think those are the same thing, you don't understand anything.

Of course they aren't. Sony is moneyhatting this time around.

We're not going to force you into bed with a publisher just to put a digital game on our network when it really isn't necessary to do so =/= moneyhatting, but thanks for playing.

No worries, though. You already annihilated whatever credibility you had when you called Journey a moneyhat. Incubating a fledgling indie inside of Sony Santa Monica and allowing them to go way, way over budget and deadline to make a passion project isn't a moneyhat. Paying a publisher off for the express purpose of killing other versions of their game, is.

Journey is as much a moneyhat as the things some people cry about MS doing. They paid a 3rd party company to make a game and took over the IP in return. People here have criticized MS for doing the same thing. It is adorable how studio size and such only comes into play for Sony though. Like I said, never change.

Self publishing is irrelevant. If the exclusive aspect were merely self publishing then Sony wouldn't have the ability to promote the games as "debuting exclusively first on PS4".

Hope those helped.

do you honestly believe that money was the only driving force behind this?

Yes. There is a 0% chance that an EA published game is exclusive for any reason other than money. The figure being bandied about is $50 million, and all talk about dedicated servers or the cloud or "waaah, waaah, our studio is too small" is, to put it politely, fucking horseshit.

Hey, calm down, no need to cuss. Relationships between large companies like MS and EA are often about a lot more than just transference of cash. In this case is probably revolves a great dela around dedicated server support, both for Titanfall and BF4, or other incentives that EA found attractive.

Remember, for e period of time during this generation, they switched sides to Sony and really promoted them as their go-to-partner. I also do not understand why you get so upset, because I hope you know that both MS and (to a lesser extent) Sony are moneyhatting this industry in order to gain market shares?

LOL, no.

Uh... it's completely relevant. They're debuting exclusively first on PS4 because they can't come to the Xbone at all without securing a publisher.
