Forums - Microsoft - Titanfall designer on Xbox exclusivity: "Microsoft is like the Apple of videogames"

I'm fine with his remarks but I just don't get the context. If Microsoft are the Apple of video games when it comes to multiplayer and communal gaming, what are Apple the Apple of?

I guess he is saying they set the standard but thats debatable

It's too bad that I hate apples, if it's more like a water melon then I'd be all like

Yes it's moneyhatting

If Microsoft paid to fund Titanfall and Dead Rising, I wouldn't have a problem with it, but they're paying to keep those titles Xbox exclusive.

@bolded - All that really needed to be said.

@2nd part - we don't know any of these things about either game. Neither Respawn or Crapcom have detailed what they did or did not get from MS.

1st part: Are you fucking serious?

2nd part: I don't think EA needed start-up money for Titanfall and we know there's as large of an audience for shooters on the PS as there is on Xbox. EA is basically limiting their sales by half by only releasing on one console and it's not unreasonable to imagine that money was involved. (Just to be clear: releasing one console apparently also includes the 360 and PC).

Dead Rising - maybe. I don't know if the last game was considered a sucess for them or not.

You do know that this is Respawn game not EA.  EA has publishing and distribution rights but thats it. What does that mean.  EA does not decide anything about what Respawn make, and how they go about their business.  Its not EA call if Respawn wants to go to one platform or multiple.  Respawn chart their own course and thats why you see Respawn making other partnerships because they can.

How much did they get paid for that bold statement? ^^

I'm a tad shocked that people aren't understanding this.

To be fair, I think it's less a matter of being unable to understand and more of a willful refusal to understand.

I prefer truth. Microsoft paid. It's easy to say and understand. It's no different than COD or BF... other than Titan Fall not being as big a franchise as those 2 are.

Can we at least commend MS for paying to give their fans the 1st class treatment?

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

I actually see MS moneyhatting to get these games as mutually beneficial. They spend their money to secure a game first for their customers. The other guys have to wait, or buy it on the PC. Either way, it shows that MS is willing to do things that Sony frankly can't afford to do.

It makes me feel like a 1st class gamer knowing the company who makes my console is spending millions just so I can play things first.

If we're talking about investing in dedicated servers and stuff like that? Sure.

But as far as paying third party publishers to cancel or delay their games for other systems? No. Fuck no. That doesn't improve the experience of the Xbox customer, it just shits up everyone else's experience.

Well, that's pretty sad of you. The more accurate way to think of this isn't that they're paying so that you can play it first, but so that other people can play it last.

I don't see the problem in that as a Xbox gamer. The idea is to make their console attractive....making multiplats favour one console over another is a stroke of genious, making something for everyone feel like an exclusive, even for a period of time. Buzz and sales will favour them and the competition will get it when the gamers have moved on.

I love it, and if other gamers have to wait, its their fault for not picking the right console. Gamers don't like to wait so I take much pleasure in this.

In the end, MS is spending millions to benefit their customer. More then what I can say for Sony with 3rd parties.
