Metroid Other M

it's what happens when you let creativity overtake every other aspect of a game's creation

I really enjoyed that game despite its flaws. Gameplay was solid. I prefer third person Metroid games to the first person ones. Even if the first Metroid Prime was near flawless.

Other M had some really bad game design, and the story wasn't really good. But I think they could revisit the foundations of that game, mix in more aspects of Super Metroid in it... Make the game less story driven and more exploration based... And last of not least, let Samus be ALONE on the planets she explore. I'm tired of seeing all the military goons get in the way of the atmosphere. Let the environments tell the story. No need for lenghty cut-scenes.

I agree on game design, but storywise I thought it was pretty good, answered a few questions, some cut scenes could have been shorter though.

But I agree it would be nice for them to revisit the foundations of that game.

Some surprising replies to this, to be honest.

My list would include:
Portal
Fallout 3
AudioSurf
Baldur's Gate
Shadow of the Colossus
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

I used to hate on Other M for the usual memes of Adam authorisation and The Baby.

But having watched the game in motion played by the Prime speedrun world recordholder, it's also a terrible, bland and repetitive game. No room or tunnel felt like it meant anything or existed in a meaningful world. There was zero choices in gameplay (it even made you save). Concentration meant resources were pointless.

Majora's Mask was really creative. It was totally different from Ocarina in style, scale, scope, enemy. The only having three days to do everything was cool and you could speed up or slow down time.

And that's not even mentioning the mask element of the game which was a key part of the gameplay.

In case you didn't know, I have a comic book called Guardians. I'm the writer/creator of it, and we have four issues out right now, with our fifth coming out soon!

We're also doing a Patreon right now for the comic, and I'd appreciate any and all help in getting it funded. If 56 people pledged $3 per issue, we'll be funded

To pledge, click here. Please join Team Guardians!

Rather than just posting a game title, please explain what is creative about the game you are naming, or this thread isn't really going to amount to much.

I would say, in terms of "holy hell how did anybody think of this idea" creativity it has to go to Flower, just because not one person in a thousand has ever thought "I bet a game about blowing flower petals around a field would be brilliant" and yet it was.

Looking at more mainstream games, I think Just Cause 2 and its grapple hook and parachute were creative genius. They stopped the game from just being a dull generic open world shooter and made it memorable.

I can't say "most creative" but I'll give a shout out to Kid Icarus Uprising. From the controls, to the storytelling, and even down to the difficulty selection, everything about the game was done in a unique way.

You name Baldur's Gate, but then name Fallout 3 instead of the original two Fallouts?
