People act like sony invented the concept of allowing used games and offline play. These aren't new unheard of innovations. All m$ did was go back to policies they already had in place with 360.

Infact Sony has taken a few cues from M$ with next gen. i.e. Pay-for-online and bundling headsets.

No, that place will always be occupied by Sony. ALWAYS!

Sony has a touch device inside the controller. Sony wants people to pay for online. = I dont see how Sony is not the copycat again.

My question is this: Will either MS or Sony move the Industry forward this next generation? Because I feel they are just copying their own previous consoles with some bling-bling...

Microsoft introduced unified memory with the original Xbox, the Wii U followed it, and now the PS4 is following it.

Corrected. Not sure if you wrote it wrong or anything, but the 360 actually used GDDR3 and EDRAM, while the original XB is the one with unified memory, since it used DDR RAM for everything. :)

No, it was unified.  The 10MB EDRAM was a graphics (frame) buffer, which the CPU could send data to or retrieve data from the GPU, but it didn't otherwise go through it.  In otherwords, the 10MB of EDRAM was for graphics only.  If the game needed to access memory for non-graphical functions, it did so directly through the GPU.

The CPU did, apparently, go through the GPU to get to the memory.

Hey everybody. I know this thread seems fairly biased, but I'm just looking at it from the perspective I mentioned in the description. I'm not saying Microsoft is copying some original idea that Sony invented. I'm saying that they're copying the Model Sony has going with the PS4, seeing as Microsoft obviously had a completely model in mind, before the PS4 saw such popularity, while their console was pretty much shunned. Microsoft's reversals so far are in fact good business decisions, but I feel as though the same can be said for Sony's many choices with PS3 (excluding Move & PSASBR). They were good business decisions that helped push the console.

That sums things up as well as I could.  They are just going back to the same policies of this gen.  If you think MS is copying Sony than everybody was copying off Atari.

Ummmmmmm... no...

Pretty much all the policies that Microsoft changed have been changed back to industry standards. No DRM is something that has been standard since the NES. Not having a camera plugged in all the time is something that's been standard for every system in the history of ever. They're not copying the PS4 by going back to established standards that pretty much every system (including the XBox and XBox 360) have used.

People seem to be a bit confused about copying. Copying is when you take something very specific and unique from another company and use it. Not the case here.

The way I see it, they're changing the policicies they had originally laid out, because they want to be more like the PS4. If the XBone had recieved vast ammounts of attention and good publicity, Microsft would have never made these changes. They're doing because the majority prefer what the PS4 is offerring, and they don't want that. Logically, they want the majority to choose their console, and they're mimmicking the PS4 to do so.

The only thing you could argue is that they copied Nintendo's d-pad on the revised controller.

However even that is stretching it as the patent on the d-pad expired, so technically anyone can use it now lol.

I will call them the copycats of this Gen as soon as you call Sony the copycats 2.0 this Gen as well. Cross game chat and party chat say hi.

Aren't those basically the same exact thing?...

Regardless, I guess Microsoft invented that, huh? Skype, Ventrillo, or ANY PC chat service, anyone?.. -_-
