Hey everybody. I know this thread seems fairly biased, but I'm just looking at it from the perspective I mentioned in the description. Microsoft's reversals so far are in fact good business decisions, but I feel as though the same can be said for Sony's many choices with PS3 (excluding Move & PSASBR). They were good business decisions that helped push the console.

If that's the case, then the original premise of your thread and the title are incorrect.

Your thread title and the original post insinuated that Microsoft copied Sony, when in fact they haven't copied them.

Active DRM:  They reverted to the passive DRM on the Xbox 360.
No Headset:  They reverted to the practice with the Xbox 360 of including a headset.
Indie Development:  They made every Xbox One a dev kit.

The only thing that they have copied Microsoft on is giving away games through their subscription-based service, but even there Microsoft is giving away full games for free.  Not lending them to you for as long as you have a subscription.  If there are two games you really want in a month, you can obtain an Xbox LIVE Gold subscription for that month and download the games, then they're yours forever.

The Xbox One copies the Xbox 360 more than the PS4.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Ummmmmmm... no...

Pretty much all the policies that Microsoft changed have been changed back to industry standards. No DRM is something that has been standard since the NES. Not having a camera plugged in all the time is something that's been standard for every system in the history of ever. They're not copying the PS4 by going back to established standards that pretty much every system (including the XBox and XBox 360) have used.

People seem to be a bit confused about copying. Copying is when you take something very specific and unique from another company and use it. Not the case here.

The way I see it, they're changing the policicies they had originally laid out, because they want to be more like the PS4. If the XBone had recieved vast ammounts of attention and good publicity, Microsft would have never made these changes. They're doing because the majority prefer what the PS4 is offerring, and they don't want that. Logically, they want the majority to choose their console, and they're mimmicking the PS4 to do so.

It doesn't matter if Sony's doing it.  It's something non-specfic and general.  It's a feature of every console ever.  You're basically accusing Microsoft of copying a lack of DRM.  So... they're copying nothing?

This whole topic is becoming really silly.  We're accusing Microsoft of copying not having a feature that no console has had?  People are calling the DS4 a Wii U rip off (it's not)?  People are accusing Sony of ripping off the concept of charging people for a service? SMH.   I'm all for calling companies out on ripping things off when they actually have, but this is kind of ridiculous.

I've given Sony a hard time in the past because that's just the way I am. Truth be told, I really don't care who copies who. I just want what I want when I want it and how I want it. Now, I will deny that this post ever existed.

I will call them the copycats of this Gen as soon as you call Sony the copycats 2.0 this Gen as well. Cross game chat and party chat say hi.

Aren't those basically the same exact thing?...

Regardless, I guess Microsoft invented that, huh? Skype, Ventrillo, or ANY PC chat service, anyone?.. -_-

Well, you're way too young I guess.

Back in 1996 Windows 95 had a voice chatting/conferencing application called Netmeeting.  It used to be installed as a part of Internet Explorer 3, then eventually Windows Messenger.  Long before Skype or Ventrillo.

Already a topic to discuss that.  No need for another.

I could say the same about this topic. There have been many "*Insert Company* copied this or that!" threads.

Reversing policy is not being a copycat, unless you reverse because your competitor also reversed policy. The policy reversal is to where things are currently, which only copycat would be to copy the past,

They aren't copying Sony. They have been reversing their policies making them more in line with what they did with the 360. I guess you could say they are copying themselves...

Sony is already copying MS by implementing a multiplayer paywall with PS plus...something that wasn't around during the PS3 era.

Pretty much.
