Handhelds always start to sell well when they can play Nintendo games. Once it gets those it might have a chance to sell better.

Lol, what? The 3DS was basically dead in the water at that point. The humongous price drop and wave of new quality games turned it around, but before that it was doing horrible. Sure its launch was great, but then pretty much all launches are because of fanatic early adopting fans. |
The 3DS wasn't dead in the water. It sold no less than 65,000 a week and that was on its very worst week, but it was usually around 90,000 a week. "As well as it did" doesn't mean "as well as it's doing now."
65,000 at its worst, with around a 90,000 a week average in comparison to the Vitas 30,000-35,000 average after it went to 199 yen in Japan. Crazy that people would buy a system with hardly anything worthwhile on it and completely avoid a system with a solid library of titles.

Consumers obviously don't agree with your definition of a solid library.
No, I'm happier when Sony consoles are dominated by Nintendo consoles for 101 reasons.

Just as we know quality has very little to do with sales, there's not much coorelation between a library and its sales.
With all the software released this year it's still struggling to outsell outdated consoles on a weekly basis in the West. It still has killer software in its bag so it will eventually do better but it will take Vita a looooooot to match that.
In Japan, 3DS has all the killer software, even stole the MH franchise so it won't happen. I do predict that Vita's best market will be Japan though as it does have a decent lineup and will continue to do so. It won't match what the PSP did but probably sell on par with the PS3.

Except video game history. |
Are you saying the Gamecube had a terrible games library?

It has to be compared to the PS2, so you tell me. |
I'd say the Gamecube had more than a solid library. It just wasn't as good or well rounded as the PS2. Nothing else will be able to replicate that.
Dreamcast had one of the best launch lineups ever and it got ignored despite a ton of quality titles. There's more to it just how good are the games.

It held up pretty damn well.

Well, of course. The hardware itself can present an obstacle through price, features and quality. If we look at PS2 vs. GC and try to be as objective as possible, we would have to call the PS2 the obvious winner. |
Exactly, but that doesn't mean the competition does have a compelling offering or in cases of certain fans, a better offering (Halo for Xbox, and the Mario/Nintendo offerings for Gamecube).
