Forums - Sony - Is Continuing To Support The PS3 So Much The Best Move?

pokoko said:
Gran Turismo 6 on the PS3 will make Sony a LOT more profit than if they put it on the PS4. That's the point of doing business. GT is a franchise that does very well in Europe, where the new console adoption rate is lower.

It's also playing on the repeat customer effect, where you stand a greater chance of a consumer coming back if you make them happy.

It's clear that Sony's strategy is to sell two levels of consoles, just like a lot of other businesses with a lot of other products. It's not to make fanboys happy by allowing them to say, "my next gen console is out-selling your next gen console". It's the Corvette and the Camaro, the Big Mac and the regular cheeseburger--though, wait, that might not work since I always get the two cheeseburger value meal.

I think it's going to be fine. Those who want a PS4 are going to get one.

Perfectly said and point proven

cutting support early breeds customer dissatisfaction.

Hellll no! Its a FANTASTIC MOVE, PS3 making money, alot. If something is selling over 100k a week, then by all means just dont stop!

a vast majority of consumers can't or wont be able to buy into next gen consoles day-1.  they are expensive and feature small libraries.  for the 100+ million gamers out there that will not have a next gen console this holiday,..  having no new games for the current gen is flat out having support cut out for them.

sony is not going overboard.  it's MS and nintendo (leading into the wiiU) that cut out too early.  think about it,. what game has MS's first party put out in all of 2013?    ...GeoW Judgment back in March.   you don't think that feeds into the current hate that xbone is getting?   what games did nintendo release leading into the wiiU?  you don't think that feeds into wiiU's current dissappointing sales trend?

unhappy customers are customers that don't return.

I doubt the PS4 will make a profit right out of the gate. They need the PS3 to offset some of the losses.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Well I hope Sony first party continues to make games for PS3 for at least another year.

I'm not getting the ps4 for along time,so it's a good move in my opinion.

Absolutely.
Games so PS3 owners get the most out of their console and have a more flexible time going over to the PS4.
The console is profiting, so Sony is at benefit as well - at first, PS4 will bring quite a lot of losses, which need the PS3 to offset them (is Vita losing money? if it is, then to offset Vita losses as well).
