The other PS3 exclusives can't make that point on their own? Releasing your #1 system selling on a console that is on its last two feet and you have another console coming, it just doesn't make sense to me.

I think it's a great move. Most consoles come here really expensive in the first years!. So we can't buy them the first year and have to wait a couple of years. A 10 year cycle is perfect. Sometimes we had to wait about 4 years to buy on the systems! Like the PS 2. I bought it about 4 years into it's life span!

Believe it or not, but if they do it, it good for sales.
Let's remember that Sony is one of the biggest hardware corporation in the world, they are the kings of vertical integration; to the point they inspired Apple since the Ipod strategy.

I believe every Playstation home console gets 2 Gran Turismos. So there's nothing new here. God of War 2 on PS2 was an odder call.
Go Team Venture! I still don't get the Wii, PS Move, and Kinect.Gran Turismo 6 on the PS3 will make Sony a LOT more profit than if they put it on the PS4. That's the point of doing business. GT is a franchise that does very well in Europe, where the new console adoption rate is lower.
It's also playing on the repeat customer effect, where you stand a greater chance of a consumer coming back if you make them happy.
It's clear that Sony's strategy is to sell two levels of consoles, just like a lot of other businesses with a lot of other products. It's not to make fanboys happy by allowing them to say, "my next gen console is out-selling your next gen console". It's the Corvette and the Camaro, the Big Mac and the regular cheeseburger--though, wait, that might not work since I always get the two cheeseburger value meal.
I think it's going to be fine. Those who want a PS4 are going to get one.

Since it's their only profitable console as of now, yes. Should they be focusing on some other things? *Cough*the Vita*cough* Maybe. But, since the PS4 is coming out, they need something to obtain profit from. I guess the PS3 took that cake. (For obvious reasons. One being that it's actually still selling quite well.)
Sony doesn't have just one team working on games. I'm sure they have enough of a work-force to be able to release a new console with some influential games, while keeping up another. One that will, most likely, give them more money.
Why not? It's not like the vast majority of people are instantly going to switch over to the PS4.
Its a good move people know Sony wont abandon them after 5-6 years if they buy a PS4,Sonys consoles get the longest support of all of them and this is good for the image of the brand.
They are pretty much saying if you buy our product you will get ten years of support from us unlike our competition that will kill their hardware after 5 years
