i wouldnt allow it, but sometimes there is nothing you can do. (mostly on the internet) what i dont do is dream about how i would murder them if i could not get into trouble.

Depends on the context, but overall they are equal as their main purpose is to degrade people.

I would think racial would cause more backlash.

However, I would feel least comfortable being caught making a homophobic one.  

Honestly, I jokingly use slurs.  I have used most of the racial ones, a few ethnic ones, and I use the homo ones towards gay people as a joke (considering he does it himself).  The only time someone got upset was when I didn't even direct the comment at a person and just made a pun.  I simply used the word "white trash" to describe a white paper bag filled with various junk someone left behind and the guy (who was white) was all pissed off and saying how he isn't offended, but someone else might be.  Which is weird, because I've made other "racial" comments around this guy and he said nothing.

Racial slurs are the worst. Some ethnicities are objectively better than others and slurs regarding sexuality shouldn't be offensive given that everybody has a choice to like what they like. Race on the other hand, you can't choose race.
