Call of Duty Digital Earnings See ‘Significant Growth’

Activision earned $1.05 billion in revenue for the second quarter of 2013, down slightly from $1.075 billion during the same period in 2012. Digital sales (including DLC) accounted for $387 million (37 percent) of the total.

A large part of Activision’s report -- including an earnings call held this afternoon -- focused on the announcement last week that Activision bought back a $5.83 billion stake from Vivendi, becoming an independent company with the majority of shares held by the public.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Which is less than the same quarter last year BUT the important number (profits) was up.

Context kinda matters. They also warn of a difficult second half and seem to be slightly worried about Battlefield.

37% of revenue was digital. But we don't want digital do we.

CoD DLC will always sell like crack. Its not that people dont want digital, its that people dont want to be forced into digital.

i believe digital was even something like 62% if you only look at non-gaap earnings.

Forced?   There arent options?

Anyhow, forced or not.   If digital represents 37% of Activision revenue already, then it likely represents 50% of profits.  Soon enough (within 2 years) digital will outweigh physical.  Software sales numbers here are meaningless already.

Yes, we have options now which is the best thing. No restrictions. You want digital? Buy digital. You want physical? Buy physical.

When youre Activision and you push out expensive DLC for the biggest game in the World, youll make a lot of money on digital.

Does this digital income include WoW subs too?

WOW is big

must be hell of a BLOWJOB.... 1 billion with 3 MOUTHS..... man im in the wrong business... i should give oral more often...

With how big Activision Blizzard is getting I wonder If they are actually considering enter their own home console eventually. A machine with home console exclusives of future Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, Diablo, Starcraft & Warcraft, Crash Bandicoot, Skylanders, Wolfenstein & Guitar Hero titles could be force to be reckoned with.

They get so much money off DLC it's not even funny.. It's ridiculous, I don't know how they get away with it.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.
