Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo:That Bringing Their Games To Smartphones Etc Decreases Brand Value

This conversation sums it all up pretty nicely! QFT!

It's just facts! Nintendo may not be right about everything, but they are absolutely right to ignore that market and focus on their own hardware. But I do wonder, are there any positive results to doing this? Because any I try to come up with lead up to largely negative consequences.

Actually I think some franchises like Pilot Wings would be a good fit for Nintendo to put on smartphones and tablets as the gyroscope is perfectly fine for flying games. Couldn't see a platformer working well on them though.

Nope.

Nope.

Nintendo games will be on a smartphone/tablet ... the day Nintendo makes or co-develops (ie: with Google) their own smartphone/tablet with physical controls (slider or discreet).

Otherwise nope.

I don't even think iOS/Android is as lucrative as people think. Is Sega making a fortune with the Sonic games on iOS/Android? A $1 app is a pretty thin profit margin compared to a $40-$60 game.

Unfortunately there's a lot of people whom doesn't see these facts... I dunno, but they must be blind or something! If there's anyone who needs to focus on their own hardware it's Nintendo; they're actually making money per sold unit (most of the times anyways).

They can't just straight up port over their old games to iOS/android since smartphones aren't smart enough to handle real games, so they'd have to build a new game from the grounds up to fit the needs of smartphones. I guess if they only made a few mobile games it wouldn't hurt them all that much; they could use those games to lure people to their hardware and other offerings...

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

We don't always agree, but I'm with you 100% on this one!

There's a reason why the popular "platform" games on mobile devices usually include auto-running, and that's why Mario in its true form will never be a success on a touchscreen only device.

Nintendo have devices with touchscreens, thus they've had plenty of opportunity to experiment with those control methods, yet they've never abandoned physical controls and gone touchscreen only in those games. That speaks volumes.

Say that to the Pokemon Emerald ROMs out there.

Just put VC on the thing already so people can buy it legally.

Why ? They aren´t even able to support their own VC services with regular releases, why should they waste their resources on shitty smartphones ?

Is SEGA thriving with the release of their old ass legacy titles ? I don´t think so !

I agree. Smartphones are just not the way i want to play games. Capcom, Square Enix, and EA are just ruining their series.

If you don't play their mobile games, why is it, to you, ruining the serie ?

If you do play the mobile games, what made you become masochist ?

Wow, the competition doesn't, so they shouldn't do it.

What if Bill Gates said "I won't make an universal OS, the competition doesn't" ?

Games on mobile platforms can work. They just have to be built around the hardware and the touchscreen. A port of a console game won't work obviously. But I say it's bullshit that you can't experience Mario on a smartphone or tablet. I mean, Nintendo made everything with Mario and a game like Mario Party would work flawlessly on mobile platforms. You just have to make mini games that make good use of a touchscreen.

So, if Nintendo really wanted to, they could bring quality games to mobile platforms. It wouldn't decrease their brands, it would instead increase their value. If the games are good, Nintendo can reach people who don't own a gaming console at all. If they like the games, maybe they will consider buying a Nintendo console.

Nintendos approach on the matter is very short-sighted if you ask me. Quality games will always do good for your company, no matter on what platform.
