I just want them to let me unplug it so I can throw it somewhere out of my sight. I don't have space for that crap. I just want it out of my way. If I don't have to have it on then when on gods green earth does it need to be plugged in?

Guess what, you cannot snatch out the dvd drive of an xbox 360 because the xbox 360 won't work anymore even if you don't need a drive to play digital downloaded game.

The kinect 2 on the One is not an accessory, it is a part of the console itself. The only reasons why it is external is due to the console size and convenience on disposition and orientation of the kinect and console. That is why you'll need it plugged in.

That said you can do whatever you want with it. turn it to face a wall, block the mic with tape, put it behind the tv furniture if you don't want to see it...

can i have sex with it while wearing a clown costume?

The reason people are worried about it is because it's constantly listening for a prompt to turn on the xbox one. That means it must always be listening. Phones aren't always listening for a voice command, so that comparison doesn't really make sense. We saw how crazy people were about their privacy with the NSA scandal, and this came out at the worst time. People in European countries will freak out even more. Germany is a bit crazy about privacy based on what I've heard. And yes companies can monitor your kinnect. MS has been making deals with companies so people can get "personalized ads" from companies they are partnered with. Now does that mean it's always watching, no. It does mean that it's paying a little bit to much attention while the console is in use though.

Well, here's the thing.  Cellphones are triangulated between towers, so anytime you turn it on, your position can be tracked.  Smartphones, have GPS, and your position can be identified within feet.  Smartphones, where the battery can't be removed, are constantly sending data out.  This is a known fact.  If anyone wants to know where you go, they can.

That said, the Xbox One is using minimal power when its in standby mode.  Does your laptop operate in standby mode?  Is it able to record video or voice conversations?  No.  Neither is the Xbox One.  Instead of sitting there waiting for an input from a mouse or keyboard, it's waiting for an input from Kinect.  When Kinect hears "Xbox On" then it signals the Xbox One to turn on.

Last I knew, they didn't put a HDD in the Kinect sensor, so it can't do much more than listen for an exact phrase and when it hears it, then provide the input to wake the Xbox One.

can't wait to play DBZ with ma kinect

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Of course you can, but I think you should give Microsoft a call before, just to see if such activity is in the term of use and covered by warranty in case of disfonction. :P

are we talking about disfonction of my penis or kinect? because if its my penis then no problem, but if its the kinect then boy would that be a bummer, my X1 wouldnt work then

I find the idea creepy in theory. As always, if you have nothing to hide, then you have nothing to worry. This is assuming it pick ups all conversation and discussions around it and microsoft can hand that data to other companies/agencies. Not sure why microsoft would even make it always on, it seems like such a silly thing to do and quite unnecessary as well. My guesses are that it has something to do with the power of the cloud.

First off, I don't really care if the xbox one is recording what I'm saying, it's not like I'm saying anything the gov't cares about. Second, I know that there is a very low chance the xbox one is "always listening." Third, there has to be a microphone constantly listening for the "xbox on" prompt, so some people are scared that it could be recording it.

They say I can deactivate the kinect. But if I can really shut it off completely - why can't I unplug it? There has to be a reason and that's why I don't trust MS on this one.

My smartphone runs Android, rooted with unlocked Bootloader. I customized the shit out of my device and blocked all Internet access with a few exceptions. But I have full access to the system. I know what Android is doing and I can make changes if I wish to. Open Source all the way. Same with my notebook. Not the case with XBox. I don't have any access at all. I can put on or off some options, but I'll never know if those truly work. Only Microsoft knows what's going on inside that thing.

I just really don't like the thought of a future where our governments know every single detail about the lives of every citizen. So it's time to fight back.

Privacy concerns? Ha I'm not worried anymore than with the other cameras always watching me.

How many of those other cameras are located in your house?

7 of them covering 4 different rooms. What is your point?

So I can understand that people dont like the idea of the kinect and it is infact a problem for a lot of persons irrational or not the problem is you can not be 100% sure the world works like you think. Unless you can see it for yourself all thats left is to hope that nobody actually gives a shit. Which I infact believe (but dont know for sure) so Kinect wouldnt bother me at all except for the fact that I have to pay for it eventhough I dont care about any of its functionalities atm.

I don't believe I ever claimed the world does. If someone has justified why in their situation one camera is ok while another camera isn't, why would I be against that?
