Forums - Nintendo - Will Third parties ( including Shovelware companies) be focusing hard on the 3DS by this time next year?

probably but shoverlware will have a problem selling their games...
since there is a huge support of first party... which is the priority why people would buy a 3ds......
im surprised... i didnt see much 3d movie cartoons games much...

I think the only possible reason why the 3DS wouldn't get a large slice of third-party support is that might get lost in the iOS/Android--PS4/XO shuffle. Developers seem eager to jump into those pools at the moment, though probably for different reasons. I think the 3DS also suffers from a bit of the same thing Nintendo home consoles experience, which is the perception that only a few genres really sell well on the system.

Anyone else think that Nintendo could use a western studio that focuses only on the 3DS? In order to widen the scope of that perception?

I am surprised that some of the bigger publishers aren't giving the 3DS more of a run, though. I guess, really, everyone has so many projects going on. Things will likely be better for everyone when the PS3 and 360 get phased out. It will be interesting to see who gets the move love in Japan; the 3DS, the Wii U, or the PS4.

The truth is that, unfortunately, most people buy Nintendo systems to play only Nintendo games. That's why we have many great third party releases on the system that sold only ~100k, and that's why most third-parties aren't releasing any games for it. DS's case was a different: third-party games actually sold more on it than on 3DS, and development costs were very, very low, so a studio could make profit selling only 100k copies of a game.

Don't think it would help. Nintendo have two western game devs. at the moment. Retro and NST. Retro is making Donkey Kong and NST is making Mario vs. Donkey Kong. Both of the studios was started so that Nintendo would be able to make games for the western audiences. Worked in the start.

Nintendo need an attitude change, more than anything. But a few more western devs. wouldn't hurt.

the types of 3rd party games that really sold on DS, with the exception of JRPGs have kinda migrated to phones, they wont do as well on 3ds

Strangely enough, a lot of the niche games from Japan are doing dang well on the 3DS.

Who expected retail Xzone to outsell Soul Sacrifice retail?

i think pachturd has it right

" I think the bigger problem is that third-parties are pretty much giving up on handheld, it’s just not something that makes sense for most of them and Nintendo dominates.”

well partially right. Japanese publishers will develop for the 3ds with most western devs ignoring the 3ds

you expected a game released on a system with a MUCH smaller install base to outsell a game on the system that not only has a MUCH bigger install base but uses famous characters that have been around for years? What dimension are you from?

Soul Sacrifice was hyped as the saviour of the Vita everywhere prior to its release, while Project X Zone was seen as an absolute niche title. I think most people didn't expect Project X Zone to outsell Soul Sacrifice.

Plz, X Zone is like the niche of the niche.

Soul Sacrifice was the biggest Vita title of the 1st half of the year.
