Strangely enough, a lot of the niche games from Japan are doing dang well on the 3DS.

Who expected retail Xzone to outsell Soul Sacrifice retail?

you expected a game released on a system with a MUCH smaller install base to outsell a game on the system that not only has a MUCH bigger install base but uses famous characters that have been around for years? What dimension are you from?

Soul Sacrifice was hyped as the saviour of the Vita everywhere prior to its release, while Project X Zone was seen as an absolute niche title. I think most people didn't expect Project X Zone to outsell Soul Sacrifice.

define "everywhere" I have a Vita and the people who i know have it werent hyped at all. Only a small vocal group was actually "hyped". There both niche titles. Who didnt expect PxZ to outsell SS? Show them to me.

Western devs: what's a 3DS or Vita?

Western devs are XB1/PS4 > 360/PS3 = PC > smartphone/tablets > Wii U > 3DS > Vita

Japanese devs support the 3DS, but I'm surprised that some Japanese devs still don't seem to be embracing it in the biggest way, like Sega or Square-Enix or Namco I think could be doing more.

Plz, X Zone is like the niche of the niche.

Soul Sacrifice was the biggest Vita title of the 1st half of the year.

and Soul Sacrifice isnt niche? yeah it is, at least outside of the US. biggest title? In Japan, still doesnt change the fact that most people outside of that country dont really care about that type of game. Look at MH sales.

i think pachturd has it right

" I think the bigger problem is that third-parties are pretty much giving up on handheld, it’s just not something that makes sense for most of them and Nintendo dominates.”

well partially right. Japanese publishers will develop for the 3ds with most western devs ignoring the 3ds

I do not know why. Did they forget about China Town Wars? It was a non traditional GTA game and it still did really well. The DS version dominated the PSP version.

the DS version didnt dominate anything, stop making stuff up. THe DS version sold 200k more than PSP despite it being out almost a year prior and that doesnt even take into account the uncounted digital sales for the PSP version. YOu need to look in the dictionary and look at the word "dominate" i dont think you know what it mean.

Actually, Japanese 3rd are slowly shifting to Vita : Vita has more 3rd party projects in developement than 3DS atm. Western 3rd parties still totally ignore handhelds and indies bet on Vita. PSVita wins here.

300,000 more, not including magicall digital sales, and the DS was less of a hardcore gamer handheld. So for China Town wars, which was not even a traditional GTA game to sell 1.27 million so far, is pretty good.

300,000 still isnt dominating, not when there was like a 6-8 gap between releases, thats nothing. And there was never a digital version the DS one so im sure it didnt sell that much more than the PSP version. Doesnt matter if it was less of a hardcore system, what the hell does that have to do with anything, if you have that much more systems out their than PSP did and only managed to sell less than 300,000 more with a half year lead, then either A) this type of game is simply not condusive to the system its on or B) its really condusive to the lower selling system.  Take your pick. Actually Chinatown Wars was a traditional game, seeing as this is how the series started in the first place, have you ever played a GTA game prior to 3 or at all?

And FYI, 1.27 mil for a GTA game? Last i checked RS didnt seem to think it was good.  Oh and its still not dominating. Look to the PSP original GTA games for dominating
