Forums - Gaming - Shin’en talks Wii U RAM

no, neogaf guys see parts that resemble several gpus. the haters simply picked the lowest one and started spreading it's the one inside wii u.

Well there are parts of the GPU that almost every modern GPU has in it, so those would not really tell us much. What they are speculating on, are the exact numbers, like shaders. They are assuming that it has to be either 20 or 40 shaders per cluster, when in fact they cannot accept the possibility that Nintendo could have easily modified those numbers. It's not about the haters though, it's about what makes sense, though I don't believe it to have less shaders considering the reports from developers claiming that it does in fact have more power. How much is a mystery, but it most certainly isn't equal to Xenos.

Lol. I can't believe people seriously think they know how many GFLOPS the Wii U is. If the guys and girls over at Neogaf and Beyond3D can't figure it out, what makes you think you can? Not that it matters anyway. It's the games that matter, and Mario Kart looks sick.

Well several guys @ NeoGaf and B3D speculate it to be either 176 GFLOPS or 352 GFLOPS, and apparently they think everything is that simple. No, I don't have exact numbers, I'm just using what I know from people who think they know about total FLOPS amount. Either way, we know that Latte is undoubtly more capable than either PS360 GPUs, even if the 176 GFLOPS metric were true. Devs constantly talked of Latte having more power anyway, but we don't know how much. Apparently some people think they can look at metrics from off-shelf GPUs and apply all of that to Latte, which unfortunately for them is not how it works considering how custom the GPU is. For all we know, Nintendo could have customized the amount of shaders per cluster and not have used the 20 or 40 like some do (therefore, FLOPS wouldn't be either 176 or 352), but apparently Nintendo can't do that because they're Nintendo.

And what exactly makes the GAF or B3D people more of a higher pedistal than tech people elsewhere? (considering how you stated that if they don't know, how can I or anyone else know?) If I had exact numbers from the official specs and access to the documentation, I could easily figure it out as any tech person of those two sites can, but there just aren't much in a way of usefull numbers, only speculation. It would be the best (or worst) thing in the world if there were to be a leak of exact specs though.

And yeah, Mario Kart does look great btw!

You're right in that there may be more insightful tech people out there, but 352GFLOPS is the number that's being thrown around (as speculation) in those particular sites and so I am assuming (possibly incorrectly, in hindsight) that the people in this thread who are quoting those numbers are taking those numbers as fact. If there is more info out there on the hardware, I'd be very keen to read it but I personally think the better respected GAF and B3D guys have as good an idea as anyone who is not under strict NDA. Like I said, I could be wrong.

+1

Fact of the matter is no one is 100% certain, those who claim otherwise should be ignored.

Besides, even if the Wii U's GPU is less than the Xbox 360's per-Gigaflop, it's still a more efficient and flexible GPU capable of new effects that the HD twins couldn't dream of. - As it should be after all these years.

I'm not talking of those numbers as fact, but we do know that it does have more raw power than either PS360, so I doubt it will have less than 240, and the shaders are a bit too large for some low number like 20 per cluster. It could be more than that, could be 40, could be 32, could be 56, I just don't know, and those "experts" at GAF or B3D don't want to accept the "I just don't know" reality. Some of them are even posting stuff on GAF like "wow, those graphics look great for GPU with less shaders" (I'm not liking a particular members' attitude towards it, like how he and others are talking like the 160 shaders is a fact). I'm just taking the info as it is from other places, it's likely not the exact number though. Sorry if I made it sound like I took it as fact.

(again with crazy teories, to measure the hardware of wii U, heheh)

So, wii U have features that ps360 dont have. How we can measure it?
lets say that the total potencial is a rate for features times gflops,
and let consider 2 scenarios: 176 gflops and 352 gflops.

lets say that the features of ps360 are 1, so the total potencial could be 240*features = 240.
for wii U: [176*features to 352*features]
so, if we could associate a number to features, we could know how better wii U is from x360!

any guess?

Wii U is better than 360, is better than PS3. NO DOUBT.

but XOne is better than Wii U and PS4 is better than XOne.

Just to clarify, I wasn't referring to you in my original post. I was actually referring to Jake_The_Fake1 and the numbers he was using. I probably should have quoted him. I think you and I are actually mostly in agreement.

this everybody knows.

and also is very inaccurate.

I am just trying to wander more preciselly how much better it is than ps360, even without knowing the exact gflops of wii U.

Cause there are people that say that wii U is just a little better than ps360, there are people that say that wii U is in the half bettween ps360 and Xone.

I just want to know if we can see better graphics than MK8 and X in wii U.

Yes, we will see better graphics than MK8. Even X will be better in the end. The problem here, we don't know exacly what Wii U can do. We know that it is superior than 7th gen. We know it can handle multiplats on 8th gen [if inferior graphics of course] but we cannot say "Wii U is 5x better than PS3". Anyway even Wii could make better graphics in the end, so why not Wii U? [or every system btw]

Pretty much no system ever has its most graphically advanced games in its second year.
