Forums - Gaming - Admit it. You got it wrong.

It was good till the last point. You almost got an "Attaboy" out of me.

You know, you could've replaced that with "Wii was a fad" and then put whatever you wanted. That would've generated a lot more discussion in this thread because it's sooo controversial.

Was grasping at straws to make it a top ten list.  I considered the "Wii is a fad" or something motion control related.  I'll think of something better when I have more time.

Change #10 to motion controls are the future: It was not

Is that why next-gen systems are still utilizing them?

Exactly. It'd be silly to think that motion controls were going to completely replace standard controllers; it's just not practical. They have their place where they are superior (bowling, golf, dance games, etc) but most of us could see that, like touch controls, they were simply going to exist side by side with standard controllers, which they will.

OT: Probably the worst prediction I've made that I can think of pertains to the WiiU; I predicted it would have an install base of 18m by the end of this year... we'll be lucky if it has half of that.

Just wondering, did that many people honestly think that motion controls would ACTUALLY replace standard controls?  I mean, saying they are the future doesn't have to mean it would be the new standard to control everything... just that it would still have an integral part of gaming (such as the touch screen on handheld devices).

I genuinely thought Little Big Planet would flop and would turn out to be a bit crap. I'm still in awe that it sold over 5 million and very happy to have been wrong.

same here. Still don't get it, and I've played both...

Play, Create, Share. Whats not to get?

gunz

They did have guns...

"The Wii's success is proof that graphics don't matter at all"

Gotta love this one. Also, "PS3 has NO GAEMZ"

Hmmm...what did Sony promise for the Cell that wasn't reached?

Killzone 2's E3 2005 target render?

When did Sony ever promise that the PS3 would do that? Guerrilla called it a target render.

But they still fooled me and a lot of people with that trailer that looked pretty much like a real gameplay footage of the game.

And I do remember some Sony PR guys saying that it was in-engine and rendered in real time.

Eh?

The actual game wasn't far off that target render......

Im pretty sure in some sites agreed that it surpassed the render in some aspects and missed the mark (but not by much) in others.

I think it's just people who like to downplay motion controls by pointing out the fact that they didn't take the place of standard controllers. I'd say that most of us never thought they would do that.

The most telling example of this is apparent in the very first "Nintendo Revolution" controller reveal trailer from late 2005. You see people using it as a tennis racket, baseball bat, etc. But once it gets to the girl that's flicking it upward to the sounds of Mario jumping, that's where most of us were like, hey, that's not going to work well for that.

They'll never take the place of a controller, but as they improve they'll likely be a part of gaming from here on out.

Can't say I disagree with anything on that list - even COD. While I do not play it I understand the appeal and why it is popular. But it is more subjective than some of your stronger points.

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

I disagree with number 7. The Wii was a generation behind graphically, but they did stuff in Metroid Prime 3 and some parts of Super Mario Galaxy that would have never been possible on the Gamecube. I was pretty wowed, myself. They weren't PS360 graphics, but I don't see why anyone would have ever expected as much.

Currently playing:

Bloodbath Paddy Wagon Ultra 9

the Wii-U and PS Vita will be okay! just. you. wait.
