No, shooting him would have added another five years.

This is all part of Florida's "10-20-Life" program, wherein the use of a gun in any crime requires a minimum sentencing. It was a campaign pledge from governor Jeb Bush, pushed as a way of showing he was "tough on crime". I'm a little surprised gun advocates haven't been up in arms about it.


As Jeb Bush and his family are republicans and most gun advocates are rightwing/republicans they turned into some kind of lemming mode and kept quiet because of loyalty.

The same tricks are used by the democrats.The leftist would already have crucified Bush for Drone killing giving money to the banks etc,but as Obama is" one of them" they don't dare to say a word.

 

I think the main reasons for such stupd laws and judgements are the private run prisons for profit.I don't know the proper english word but those prisons need a "prison fill rate" of 90%+ to be profitable.The more ,the better and to keep the prisoner supply high they need very restrictive laws.The more restrictive laws the more prisoners.

Don't know how that counters my point in the link the man in question was using it to intimidate his daughters boyfriend, in the case of the women she was using it for self defense. Big difference

It counters your point because:

A. White people and black people both run afoul of this stupid mandatory minimum law.

B. It is statistically very, very likely her estranged husband is also black. Why would such a racist system care if a black person fires a warning shot at another black person? Were they punishing her for not shooting him?

C. Both cases were examined by juries who had far more information than you do.

D. You had no point to begin with.

Zimmerman was not a stand your ground case. it was just self defence. different types of cases and defense. the cases cant really be compared.

 

This is what happens when kneejerk reactions are made and laws are put in place with out thinking them through. Judges and Jury's cant write the law, only follow it.

SMH people are still calling Trayvon a thug. People can't put aside their racism for a second; they can go fuck themselves if they see Trayvon as anything else other than the victim. I think Florida as East coast,  but something shitty always happens to remind that it's the fucking south and I got  to leave.
