Forums - Gaming - Nokia Lumia 1020- Phone with 41MP camera!

Is a good camera a reason to pick one phone over another?

Yes 50 50.51%

No 12 12.12%

Depends on what OS it is running 17 17.17%

actual cameras are always... 16 16.16%

Total:95

This thing looks pretty good. If only Sprint wasn't so against Win Phones...

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

Dang its a windows phone, nit worth the camera

brilliant.  seriously.... brilliant.

Im sorry but their is nothing appealing to me about the floundering wp OS at this point in time. I already have an android so for me to switch phones would require something more. I mean i guess i could root the phone and install Android. I enjoy my galaxy phone and will most likely upgrade to a newer version at some point. For me to switch brands would require it to have something more than a better camera. Such as android os or possibly Ubuntu.

No one is asking you to post here though. If something doesn't interest me, I just move right along...

You have your preferences but obviously some people are interested in Nokia Windows Phones as they are expected to sell 5-10 million of them every 3 months. You're just shitting on them and their preferences with your post.

No one asked you for your opinion either. I was interested in the topic as i am with all tech related stories. Thought maybe it would be good purchase for me or my wife, but researched online found it was a windows phone and lost interest. I had previously tried to talk my wife into getting a windows phone several times as the features seemed to be in line with her phone usage. She decided against a windows phone for her own reasons. Furthermore, never said anything negative about the os other than its floundering and thats a fact not opinion. I dont see why people got so upset/concerned with lack of interest in the os. However, i was on topic. I didnt see anything about os in op, but i suppose it would have been safe to assume since its nokia. Even still did not appreciate my intelligence being insulted by kowecki because i did not elaborate on my opinion or share his.

Nice. I do hope that we get the "Camera Pro" app that comes on the 1020 though. Looks much more robust than the current stock camera app. Knowing Nokia, it should be delivered to all their devices within a month or two... They take care of their product line.

It is confirmed :) http://www.theverge.com/2013/7/12/4516684/nokia-pro-camera-coming-to-lumia-920-925-and-928

First of all you're stuck in 2011 with your thinking about Windows Phone and that its floundering.

Windows phone is growing marketshare 6X faster than the smartphone market is growing - http://wirelesslyobsessed.com/2013/07/08/windows-phone-sales-growth-6x-faster-than-overall-smartphone-market/

Nokia stock is rising and has more than doubled since the all time low a year ago. They are expected to ship 10 million Lumias per quarter by Q4

http://ca.finance.yahoo.com/echarts?s=NOK#symbol=nok;range=1y;compare=;indicator=volume;charttype=area;crosshair=on;ohlcvalues=0;logscale=off;source=undefined;

In terms of apps it has 160,000 and it pretty much matches Androids top 20 at this point. About the list below Snapchat is already out, instagram and Path are about to come out.

Opinion is welcome if its actually relevant and educated. Your opinion of "Windows phone sucks" isn't either... It doesn't suck. Its a little different but it does all the things 90% of the population needs and is fast fluid and stylish. It also comes on great hardware and offers a excellent user experience no matter what price range you are buying. Try buying an average 150 dollar Android device and see how it runs...

Also, you're telling me that you read a headline that said "Nokia Lumia" and didn't know its a windows phone and were dissaponted? Yeah right...

Awesome. I always found the stock camera app a little lacking. The Lenses they offer are great but its not as immediate as having a stock app that does everything...

@dis: I didn't say that Windows phone sucks... if I thought that way why would I have tried to talk my wife into getting one? I said its floundering which has to do with market share, and disjointed product lines over the years. Nothing against the performance of the OS, but it doesn't appeal to me specifically which is fine as I do see its relevance for other consumers, which is actually more important to myself for other reasons. I can't say I was shocked to find out that Nokia Lumia 1020 was a windows phone, but can't say either that I follow nokia / windows partnership closely enough to really know by default.

The article you posted doesn't give any data numbers to back up its claims, but I'll assume the information is reliable. Even still 3rd place out of 3 isn't really saying anything. If mobile growth has reached a certain saturation point then the headlining point of that article is moot and virtually meaningless if the windows phone sales are still less than I-phones and android sales individually. I mean if the market is only growing by say 1m a year (smart devices) but already has a 10m install base then the market share is only increasing by 10%. If windows phone install base is 100k and is increasing by 60k that is 60% percent growth which would be 6x the growth of the overall market. Therefore that article you posted is not much more than fluff as its fairly irrelevant and misleading and does not reflect at all how well Windows phones are selling as their sales are reflected as a part of growth in the overall market. Even comparing its growth to say iPhones wouldn't be a fair comparison as you would get similarly disjointed numbers as the product with the smallest install base will always have the potential to have the greatest increase. Compared to a product with a large install base could still outsell the smaller product, but numbers could be spun to say that another product with significantly lower sales is doing better due to its percentage increase, when it isn't really doing better by comparison to another product at all just better than it did previously.

Of course it is and this is better than most compact digital cameras.

Most people use their phones for taking pics now. The end of dedicated compact cameras is nigh.

I will always still have a decent SLR (I'm a Nikon man myself) but for snaps I use my phone all the time. This is merely a way of replicating decent zoom.

This phone is awesome.

For personal use? Yeah phones have already taken over.

For professionals? Dedicated will always be the way to go.

This phone will hopefully be my next phone once I sell my Iphone.

These are all fine assumptions and some fo them are logical but the hard data doesn't back them up.

Windows Phone growth is evident in Europe, China, India and is holding steady in North America rising as the market is growing.

According to Microsoft there are 10 markets where its starting to outsell the iPhone.

Also Microsoft just announced extended 3 year support for Windows Phone 8. Up from 16 months. They would not do that if the device was failing. Look how they cut off Windows phone 7.5, which was a sales failure.
