It's amazing that they didnt want a mass market phone, and just decided to make a phone for the amatuer photographer.

Fine, i'll be able to see every pore on my GF's breast, but most people won't like the extra $100 that this feature will add to the price. Even if it is subsidized, it will cost somebody whether MSFT, Nokia, or the consumer.

First you imply that it is a niche device and then you say people who are interested in it won't pay the extra $100. You are indeed the next Michael Pachter.

Introducing the Nokia NSA.

j/k...I hope.

That camera does look really impressive with its settings, quality, and after zoom capabilities. Nokia is really leading the pack on Windows phones. Maybe only the HTC X8 can be considered good beside them, since it is pretty much an HTC One. I admit there are things that interest me on Windows phones. Android was a fast improvement for me over iOS but in the end they are both feeling like the same thing.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

I'm just comparing features with their perceived level of want by consumers....... and a camera phone that has to have an ultra high level of clarity is probably a niche phone bc most people would be just fine with a 10 megapixel device.

Also, I'm so sorry if you felt that I insulted this unpopular line of phones.  Pleaaasssssseeeeeee forgive me.

Put android on it and ill think about it. Till then im sticking to the galaxy line.

@dis: I didn't say that Windows phone sucks... if I thought that way why would I have tried to talk my wife into getting one? I said its floundering which has to do with market share, and disjointed product lines over the years. Nothing against the performance of the OS, but it doesn't appeal to me specifically which is fine as I do see its relevance for other consumers, which is actually more important to myself for other reasons. I can't say I was shocked to find out that Nokia Lumia 1020 was a windows phone, but can't say either that I follow nokia / windows partnership closely enough to really know by default.

The article you posted doesn't give any data numbers to back up its claims, but I'll assume the information is reliable. Even still 3rd place out of 3 isn't really saying anything. If mobile growth has reached a certain saturation point then the headlining point of that article is moot and virtually meaningless if the windows phone sales are still less than I-phones and android sales individually. I mean if the market is only growing by say 1m a year (smart devices) but already has a 10m install base then the market share is only increasing by 10%. If windows phone install base is 100k and is increasing by 60k that is 60% percent growth which would be 6x the growth of the overall market. Therefore that article you posted is not much more than fluff as its fairly irrelevant and misleading and does not reflect at all how well Windows phones are selling as their sales are reflected as a part of growth in the overall market. Even comparing its growth to say iPhones wouldn't be a fair comparison as you would get similarly disjointed numbers as the product with the smallest install base will always have the potential to have the greatest increase. Compared to a product with a large install base could still outsell the smaller product, but numbers could be spun to say that another product with significantly lower sales is doing better due to its percentage increase, when it isn't really doing better by comparison to another product at all just better than it did previously.

These are all fine assumptions and some fo them are logical but the hard data doesn't back them up.

Windows Phone growth is evident in Europe, China, India and is holding steady in North America rising as the market is growing.

According to Microsoft there are 10 markets where its starting to outsell the iPhone.

Also Microsoft just announced extended 3 year support for Windows Phone 8. Up from 16 months. They would not do that if the device was failing. Look how they cut off Windows phone 7.5, which was a sales failure.

You are wasting your time here... Just look at his post history and you'll see that anything coming from Microsoft "sucks", "is bad" or "does not have a chance"...
Stats or metrics will not change anything to that

OP: I love the Lumia line. I will not upgrade yet (from my 920) as I have a reflex camera already and I'm using it mainly for my photographies. But without that; I would not hesitate one second for this new baby (even if the camera is kind of ugly on the back hehe) :)

Was not impressed at all by the Lumia 920 camera...especially after all the reviews etc.

However, I'm still a fan of Nokia hardware so i might have a look at this phone as perhaps a prepaid purchase. Will first need to see if the camera is worth it.

This wont become a daily driver though because of Windows...which i really don't like

If only Nokia made an android, ubuntu, belle phone just for the lulz!

Now that I think about it, the original pureview phone had the belle OS..

The problem with that phone was that it wasn't a premium device and looked a bit odd. Might as well just get a smallish camera. This phone on the other hand retains the smartphone form factor and looks to be a bit more of a premium device. That said the camera still looks too big and again makes the device look weird.

It feels like Nokia is one model away from making this actually work. Can't wait for that!

Usually you use the camera yourself till you say things like "was not impressed". I'd love to see these obscure reviews you've read that knock the Lumia 920 camera.

I have used the camera? Quite regularly actually.

The phone got relatively good reviews for its camera especially low light performance. I think you misunderstood my post.
