Forums - Sony - Last Of Us. Whats the fuss? Spoilers

Ok so Im only in about 38%.

But I dont see how its so frothed over. Uncharted was a much better game.

Problem with Last of Us is firstly the visuals are up then down. Sometimes it looks great, and other times it looks average. The urban jungle looks ok, it has lots of low res textures and alot less detail when compared to Crysis 3 urban jungle. And has alot less going on than that game. Uncharted 2 and 3 both had better textures, lighting and visual fidelity. Ok so Last Of us is more open and less restrictive on the player than Uncharted, but games like Gears 3, Crysis 3, etc which are more free with the camera and open like Last Of Us look better. I was quite disappointed. Cutscenes are geat though

The pacing is way off.

The first 20 min was pretty cool and emotional. Again a mix of average graphics and geat. ( The car journey looked pretty terrible. )

But I find the gamplay very repetitive and easy. Reviews said I would need to slip by enemies and pick my moments. Ive basically Splinter Celled every enemy so far. Wait sneak kill. Rinse repeat. Save your bullets for large amounts of foes, rinse repeat.

Problem Ive had is the world feels empty. You dont even feel like there is many Fungus bad guys. I feel pretty safe, because the always lets m knoe when I may have to sneak for abit.

Story and setting is pretty good. But again, games like Bioshock, Metro 2033 have way more atmosphere and much better storytelling. Im still waiting for what some reviews refer to as a revolution in storyteling. Because nearly 40% in and its been simply gamplay then cutscene then gamplay.

I actually rather finish Uncharted 3 first, it is a better game with better graphics. ( Ive just done the plane crash in the desert ).

Overall so far I thik the reviewers were on crack an theres lots about Last Of Us which could have been way better. And lots that reviews Ive read have said which jst isnt reality.

Struggle me ad my mates confused. I' give UC3 a 9 but TLOU a 7 so far.

Just beat the game before saying anything.

In the early stages I was concerned that this wasn't going to be that good. But things heat up and get a lot better at around halfway. Now get off vgchartz and go back to playing.

Are we all that biased that all Sony fans are like "OMG BEST GAME EVARRR!" (including myself) and more Xbox related people react like this to it? It's just a thought, no offense intended.

Game of the year 2017 so far:

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy

I dnt think Sony fans have with this gme. I have Sony fans friends who rate Uncharted and may others above TLOU.

Reviewers seem to have seen a different game.

At least so far for me it could have been so much better.

Yeah, it's not really game of the generation material. But on the other hand, you haven't reached the best part yet. Early on in the game, you can just play it Splinter Cell style as you said, and that's not especially enjoyable. Later on, you are actually going to have combat encounters when you need to use your resources wisely.

I don't know why this was ever marketed as a stealth game. It's a half-decent stealth game and a brilliant action game.

I take it your still in summer? The best bits are yet to come IMO.

The mechanics are not perfect but I found the combat enjoyable. I could rarely ever sneak through entire environments so half way through stealthing it, I would get caught and all hell would break loose. I found this exhilerating, it felt real and the combat really visceral. Most areas are big playgrounds for combat so it was always fun to mix and match, stealth, melee and shooting, using whole of the environment to move around and take down your enemies. It sounds as if its too easy for you, so you don't have to do this? Maybe push up the difficulty settings to max.

I was playing on Normal and died very often, so it encourage different approaches which was fun.

As for the story it really hits its stride in fall. The story itself is largely redundant but its the charcterization I loved. I think the story telling in the game is near flawless, reserving the right things for gameplay and the right things through cutscenes where the script and animation are top class. Ultimately though every game tells a different narrative, maybe this narrative isn't for you? But finish it first!

Lol these xbox guys...

Dude look at all those threads here claiming "goty" "gotg (gen)" or even "best game ever!". This is the most praised game in the history of the VGChartz forum by far, at least since I'm a member, 2009.

The dialogue has been first class. Really impressed with ND for that.

I hope the game does pick up. Becaus Im losing the will to tur it on when I get home. I ound myself tun on UC3 last night instead.

I'll push it on again tonight.
