M64 was one of the most overrated platformers ever produced. OoT was a masterpiece and it even managed to age well.

As a series, IMO Zelda will always be superior. Also the first truly great 3D mario game was Galaxy.

lol. I agree, it defined how 3D platformers have to play and look like....totally overrated.....

Screw both! All about Banjo Kazooie! Had all three games as a kid, played BK the most out of the three by far. Heck I even got the urge to play the games again a while ago so I had started digging through mountains of junk in the basement to find them. Infact, just today I found me N64! Unfortunately, I had planned to have my friends come over and of course they can't appreciate it, not even for what it was, so I haven't been able to play it yet. Tomorrow though I shall begin replaying through the games! Maybe this time I'll actually Banjo Tooie! :L

I bet your mates hate Minecraft too... :P

And proud member of the Mega Mario Movement!

Super Mario 64.

Mario 64 hands down. frankly it changed the way we play games. Not only did almost every platformer for 2 console generation rip it off (including you Banjo Kazooie and the massively over rated Donkey Kong 64) but it has been cited as an inspiration for everything from Turok Rage Wars to Resident Evil. I have rarely played any other game as full of awe, whimsy, charm or adventure. It took me to an epic world all it's own. I loved Zelda as well and it's epic quest comes very close. but it just did hit that high. also I always hated the camera in Zelda: OoT.

It might have set the basics but pretty much every rival platformer (even on the N64) raped it afterwards. It aged terribly and lets be honest, the sales where helped by the brand name a lot.

Conquer, Banjo, Crash, Sonic... during those times all of these platformer series released far superior entries than Mario. Dont take it as an insult, take it as an honest opinion, from somebody who is gaming for ~20 years now

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

Never played Mario 64; too busy playing Zelda.

Win by default. ggthxnore

Lol no, sales were help by the fact it was a great game that laid the foundations for future 3d games, the fact that every "rival" platfomer afterward used it's design highlights this. I'm not going to bother getting into which platformer is better and so on but Sonic? Lol no.

Conker came 5 freaking years later. Would be sad if they wouldn't have fixed camera positions. Banjo came 2 years later. It's a given that they will improve on that. You compare Crash to Mario 64...alone that is.....how should I say, trolling. Crash is as simple as a"3D" Platformer can go. Not saying that it's bad.Mario 64 is still playable and that after 17 freaking years. Damn, I get angry when people underestimate the impact that SM 64 had.....

EDIT: and lol at Sonic being better then SM 64 at the time......(from a technical stand point and the impact it had)
