M64 was one of the most overrated platformers ever produced. OoT was a masterpiece and it even managed to age well.

As a series, IMO Zelda will always be superior. Also the first truly great 3D mario game was Galaxy.

lol. I agree, it defined how 3D platformers have to play and look like....totally overrated.....

It might have set the basics but pretty much every rival platformer (even on the N64) raped it afterwards. It aged terribly and lets be honest, the sales where helped by the brand name a lot.

Conquer, Banjo, Crash, Sonic... during those times all of these platformer series released far superior entries than Mario. Dont take it as an insult, take it as an honest opinion, from somebody who is gaming for ~20 years now

Conker came 5 freaking years later. Would be sad if they wouldn't have fixed camera positions. Banjo came 2 years later. It's a given that they will improve on that. You compare Crash to Mario 64...alone that is.....how should I say, trolling. Crash is as simple as a"3D" Platformer can go. Not saying that it's bad.Mario 64 is still playable and that after 17 freaking years. Damn, I get angry when people underestimate the impact that SM 64 had.....

EDIT: and lol at Sonic being better then SM 64 at the time......(from a technical stand point and the impact it had)

Same here, when people overestimate it...

Overall Zelda was a better experience and a more amazing adventure, but nothing will ever match the feeling I got when I first played Mario 64. It was unbelievably cool. It was like someone had come from the future and brought me this impossibly amazing game technology. Until I step onto a holodeck, nothing will ever come close to feeling so magical.

Tough answer!

For me i would say mario 64. Only because i still know when the first time was when i played the game. It was a defining moment in gaming and my personal gaming experience.

BTW i thought donkey kong 64 was also amazing. Underrated game in my humble opinion.
