I will play this game for years and years and centuries and millenniums and... you get the point. I am just so excited for this game. This and Mario Kart 8: the ultimate system selling team.

Also, you'll eventually stop playing it. There will be another new Smash Bros. game afterall.

Yeah, stopped playing Melee right after Brawl came out. The wierd thing is that I still play Smash 64 sometimes. Hopefully Sakurai doesn't die after this game so he can make another one. He seems very distressed, hurt physically and mentally.

The 3DS version I think is going to hold the Wii U version back, both because of resources (they have to make 2 games) and because 3DS limitations will hold back content in the Wii U version.... that being said, the game looks better then Brawl in motion and I'm sure it will look even better come release time.

The only one that somewhat makes sense is the resources one, but even then you're not realizing how much bigger the team is this time around.

I also think there's a lack of understanding on your part, considering you think that both games are going to be the same.  They aren't.  They will be different.  The character roster may be the same, the moves may still be the same... but that makes up almost none of the actual game itself.  They can still put much more into the Wii U version without having to worry about leaving stuff out of the 3DS version because that was already to be expected.  They aren't SUPPOSED to be the exact same game.

So no, I don't think there really is much holding back at all.  Only the time constraints and budget are really holding things back.

is the wiiU version on the left? if so brawl looks better :S

Brawl does not look better.  Zoom in to 200% and look at the pictures side by side again and try making your decision again.

It doesn't look like a very big change, but that's because the pictures are small. If you compared a Brawl and Wii U on a 40 inch TV, the difference would be very easy to see.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

Props to the OP for putting together the screenshots and you did a great job of finding matching shots but we really need some better samples.  I've been listening now for 7 years how Wii games always looked crap because of the resolution yet now when we are doing a side by side we have Wii U screens that are sub 480p!  If i posted Last of Us screens at that resolution in a thread discussing the game's graphical merits I know I'd hear about it. A comparison has to be fair before we can draw any conclusions.

Smash Brothers has had very good models going back to the Gamecube days but the impressive thing about the game has rarely been in the the very small details but rather the ridiculous amount of stuff flying around while retaining a rock solid framerate.  I expect this tradition to continue.

Some higher resolution screens (from a game that isn't due out for about a year)

^^^^^^^ THIS!

Fox looks even worse now? :o

I dont know if Brawl was simply amazingly good looking on the Wii, or this is just a lazy HD remake. I mean the game does not look good by any HD standards...

It's laziness. This and Mario 3D World show Nintendo not even trying on the graphical front.

from  http://kotaku.com/an-in-depth-chat-with-the-genius-behind-super-smash-bro-530744390 - I don't just make stuff up :)

Kotaku: Should people expect returning characters, should they expect most of their favorites from Brawl to come back?

Sakurai: The reality of the situation unfortunately is that there are certain limitations on the 3DS, so we're forced into a situation where we may need to reduce some characters to a certain degree, but we're really working hard to include as many characters as possible.

The only "Holding back" that seems to be here is the character roster.  However, if you recall from earlier, Sakurai didn't want to make the game all about just adding characters to the roster anyways.  He thinks that having too many characters is also bad thing.  So generally I think Sakurai's being held back only on the front where the characters and their moves have to be same for both, so he would have to work with the 3DS first then Wii U on that one.  Nearly everything else will be different.

Though I have no interest in Smash Bros, I hate how Nintendo's current dick-sucking of the 3DS is holding back Wii U.
