1. DQX never should have been a MMO game.

2. Given that it is, they're NEVER going to make money on it by having it be Japan only. Japan is not a good market for online gaming in general. If they want it to make money, they MIGHT want to get a localized version for Wii U in NA and EU. Just a thought.

Where did you get that idea? Slightly outdated but

It's the only market segment that is still growing in Japan

Sometimes I just don't understand Square-Enix...

I know people will say I'm a fanboy but the fact today is that the JRPG public is on PS3... so if a company want to make money and the game will be release for another plataform then you have to release in the better plataform in terms of sales.

But Square don't... they are terrible with that.

MMO'S public is mostly on PC. JRPG's public is mostly on 3DS.

DQIX sold better on DS than DQVIII on PS2. The next DQ game should go on 3DS which is the best platform for JRPG in term of sales.

Going by that logic, DQ9 should have been on PS3 since PS2 was the best platform for JRPGs. There really isn't any evidence as of now that 3DS is the place for JRPGs.

I really hope the next DQ isn't on a handheld. DQ9 could have been so much more (although 3DS doesn't have nearly the amount of limitations the DS has).

What? Did you take a look at all the million seller JRPG on 3DS? How can you say there is no evidence that 3DS is the place for JRPG so far?

In only two years there is already more million sellers than what PS3 achieved in the past 6 or 7 years.

Just look at the number of major JRPG titles released in the past year, they were mostly all released on 3DS.

MMO announced for a PC? Seems logical.

It's just that simple.

DQ7 sold very well and is the only million selling JRPG. I think it would have done well on any platform though. Game is great, loved, and has not been remade ever. Do a good remake of the best selling DQ ever, it's hard to mess that up. Still waiting on an announcement for the States.

I'm not saying the 3DS hasn't had success, but you can't compare those sales with the DS. Not even close.

If sony were smart they'd get this on the Vita.

A remake has been made o.O

I think his wording made you miss his point.  He was saying that the reason it sold as well as it did was because it's the best selling DQ title and it hadn't been remade before that point.  At least, that's what I got from it.

I'm still waiting for a announcement as well along with Bravery Default's release which has been pushed back to 2014...damn you SE damn you to hell ;(

Herp derp Basil. We're talking about the sales of the DQ7 remake on 3DS. Up until that point, it had never been remade. I don't know how you read that post and not gather that.

Leaving aside whether that's the best metric, and excluding Monster Hunter (for multiple reasons), you're forgetting Dragon Quest Monsters, Kingdom Hearts (arguably an ARPG), and Sticker Star all exceed that mark in two years. Dream Team is almost guaranteed to join them in just a few months, and Pokemon will take all of ten minutes after release to do so as well. By contrast, the PS3 (likely the second best candidate, in my opinion) had between two to five JRPG million sellers (depending on what you consider Valkyria Chronicles and the Souls games) over its entire lifespan.

You're right that the 3DS currently pales in comparison to the DS (and likely always will), but since DS development is no longer a viable option, it seems to me that the 3DS is likely the strongest platform for the genre at the moment. Besides, JRPGs tend to take a while to develop: by 2006, the DS also only had five million-selling JRPGs.

Oh, I was just using Japan only. That's because other regions are largely irrelevant for most JRPGs outside of Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts. DQ7 and MH Tri were the only two games that people could possibly use and I don't consider MH Tri an RPG (or any MH really). Japan is the only region that matters concerning DQ, and I think DQX is large proof of that.

OK so you don't considere Monster Hunter as a JRPG. That's arguable. But what about Sticker Star, Kingdoms Heart 3D, Dragon Quest Monsters?

I would be curious also of what game you considere as JRPG released on PS3?

Also, DQ7 sold 1.22M (so far) in Japan. Lifetime figures for DQ titles on DS in Japan are 1.27M (DQ4), 1.36M (DQ5) and 1.35M (DQ6). Not to mention that DQ4, DQ5 and DQ6 were released later in the DS lifecycle than DQ7 on 3DS's one. I don't see how it doest not ''even come close'' of the DS success. To me these numbers are quite comparable.
