DQ7 sold very well and is the only million selling JRPG. I think it would have done well on any platform though. Game is great, loved, and has not been remade ever. Do a good remake of the best selling DQ ever, it's hard to mess that up. Still waiting on an announcement for the States.

I'm not saying the 3DS hasn't had success, but you can't compare those sales with the DS. Not even close.

Leaving aside whether that's the best metric, and excluding Monster Hunter (for multiple reasons), you're forgetting Dragon Quest Monsters, Kingdom Hearts (arguably an ARPG), and Sticker Star all exceed that mark in two years. Dream Team is almost guaranteed to join them in just a few months, and Pokemon will take all of ten minutes after release to do so as well. By contrast, the PS3 (likely the second best candidate, in my opinion) had between two to five JRPG million sellers (depending on what you consider Valkyria Chronicles and the Souls games) over its entire lifespan.

You're right that the 3DS currently pales in comparison to the DS (and likely always will), but since DS development is no longer a viable option, it seems to me that the 3DS is likely the strongest platform for the genre at the moment. Besides, JRPGs tend to take a while to develop: by 2006, the DS also only had five million-selling JRPGs.
