It's not "boasting", it's just discussing specs, which fits the thread topic.

For years now devs have struggled with the RAM limitations of consoles, that's why they're so over the moon about PS4's 8GB. After being restricted by 512MB for so long, (or in the case of Monolith, just 88MB) why would they leave half the available RAM unused? That doesn't make sense. I can see Mario Kart 8 not being memory intensive, but X is an open world game, and Bayonetta 2 showed large, detailed backdrops.

I'm not saying that isn't true. I just don't recall developers really complaining about RAM limitations in particular.

I do recall Bethesda saying the issues found in the PS3 version of Skyrim were due to RAM. But Skyrim actually saves every little change you make in the world. Its unlikely X and Bayonetta are going to be as complex as Skyrim.

You seem to be under the illusion we've never seen large detailed back drops on the PS360...

Nope, badly optimised programming, crappy dev kits, and a lack of developer familiarity with the hardware are.

But all that extra RAM should have fixed the problem.

I'd hate to believe lots of RAM can't fix all problems.

The final years of the PS3 vs. a Wii U Launch Title.

Awesome, Nintendo's 2012 console is giving us the same visuals of 2006 hardware.

Is that shiny skin responsible for the frame rate hit?

Imagine the gap between Wii U & PS4.

Graphics are getting to the point where they can't look as visually better dispite so much more hardware power.

At least Wii U is DX11 equivalent.

We have, but I haven't seen any quite like the city backdrop in the boss fight of Bayo 2's E3 demo, (the amount of buildings + detail is stunning) in combination with everything else going on in the scene. (Giant boss, pouring rain, reflective building, debris and effects everywhere)

From the look of things they didn't alter the game's assets to take advantage of the extra RAM, they just threw in AA (Which the PS3/360 versions didn't have) and left the rest as is.

My PS3 isn't responding.

Not that I'm certain what PS3's full potential is. Even its best looking games are at par with 360 games. In presentation, frame rate, and resolution.

That was the point. PS3 was significantly more powerful hardware than 360, but I'm not sure that even any Sony development teams ever really fully tapped that potential. Like you say, on par with 360 games, in most cases because with third party titles, they developed with the 360 in mind, not the PS3.

So certainly, Wii U is more powerful hardware than PS3. But you're not going to see that in especially first wave ports of PS360 titles. You might see it more noticible in a game like Watch Dogs, which they've indicated is taking advantage of the extra power.

Lego City Undercover could never be done on the PS3 & 360 because of lack of RAM to have that much world "Open World". (Source: Lego City developers)

I think the RAM of the Wii U vs. the RAM of the 360 & PS3 speaks for itself when it comes to open world capabilities in comparison.
