Isn't this what everyone was fighting for? They all said to remove the pointless DRM. I guess now we see the point... Also I don't understand how you complain about downloading a patch but tout the PS4s online features. Plus there has never been a MS console that could be reset to factory settings so where are you getting that from?

People weren't fighting for the removal of family sharing or against having your digital games available in the cloud. They wanted off-line play and disc ownership, next to digital. There is no reason not to keep the digital side the same as planned as a big incentive to get people to transition to digital over time. There must be more going on that MS completely nixed the family sharing plans. If it was all in place why not simply keep it for digitally bought licenses.

It's not a one time activation. If your console acts funny and you need to reset it to factory settings you'll have  to download the patch again.

And that's where one of the issues lie. No one knows how hard it will be to get the patch down the road.

This is a problem mainly for launch window X1s, as I'm sure later consoles will have the patch preinstalled.

MS's only issue was price. they won the marlet by offering the same product at a better price. Now with out the added features they had, they are more xpensive with nothing to show for it. I dont thin this will help them any. they would need a price cut to make a difference now.

It finally took the top place from PS4 in Amazom US... the effect from what MS did yesterday was immediaty.

It was already on its way up. I doubt most of the general poopulace knows about the changes after 1 day. When it comes to the US market it really is about price. Given the same products with varying prices american consumers will almost always go with the cheaper one. Its in our nature. Its why we have so many crappy made products. people over here do not care that much, they look at price first and foremost. This goes for just about any product. Its different in other countries, americans do not have much brand loyalty at all (as seen with the ps3 to 360 shift) and will be seen with the shift back to ps4 from xbox one as its cheaper by a good enough margin. Once I saw the price difference I knew MS wouldn't win this gen. With out their uniqness I worry for the system to succeed at all. But we will see. I like MS and hope for the best, but they have left with no reason to buy a new console.

With the removal of DRM, the new X1 will not be able toplay games without disks or provide family sharing. These two facets helped distinguish itself from its competitor, the PS4, which lacked these options(can still play without disks with digital downloads).

What Ms is essentially releasing is a console that has inferior hardware, 100 dollars more expensive, weaker first and third party support, more expensive network options, a controller that requires AA batteries, and mandatory kinect. PS4 has network features that will allow you to stream PS1,2, and 3 games. It will allow you to take over someone elses game or view their gameplay etc.

The last point is related to the need to download a patch to remove the DRM once you start the console for the first time.

The fact that you need internet to play without internet is a little silly. If they remove their verification servers and you format your old X1 due to some technical difficulties, you won't be able to play your games. They need to release the X1 with the patch preinstalled or else consumers are still just paying 60 dollars for one big rental.

For example if something were to go wrong with my PS3, there's an option to reset the system to factory settings and continue to play. If the X1 asks if you want to resetore the system to factory settings you wont be able to play single player if they close down their servers because you'll still need that day one patch.

With all of these negatives why would anyone invest in this console?

I think that will change soon... next update will show Xbone ahead PS4 or close to.
