But this debacle just makes me want to DL freaking ubuntu.

I wouldn't have bought a Bone anyway, but I don't think I've ever done any of the things mentioned in the OP. I didn't care enough for the Xbox to bash it, really.

Had Sony gone the same route, I'd be fucking pissed. I'm still annoyed I have to pay for online. I don't know if I care for consumer rights but I care for my rights, and I don't want these policies becoming the norm.

No troll is too much for me to handle. I rehabilitate trolls, I train people. I am the Troll Whisperer.

The two are not mutually exclusive. You can be a person who never intended to buy Xbone even before anything was known, and genuinely concerned about the erosion of consumer rights that the MS policies represent.

My attitude to Xbone is completely different to my attitude to Xbox360. For the most part (though everyone gets carried away from time to time) my view of Xbox360 was, as long as PS3 is successful enough for Sony to continue making Playstations, and it gets good games, I'm happy to live and let live. Sure I want Sony to be the most successful, but that doesn't equate to wishing other consoles to fail.

With Xbone, while the current DRM policies remain in place, I actively want it to fail. I do not want to see those policies become mainstream in consoles, and if Xbone wins this generation with these DRM policies then the other consoles (and especially Playstation) will fall into line. I do not want that!

OTOH if Xbone has a terrible start to the generation, rethinks it's aweful DRM policies, ditches them completely and fundamentally reforms the platform, then having Xbone eventually win the generation with [effectively] no DRM would be great. Because it will show that DRM on disc based games is commercial suicide and no one will ever try it again for as long as disc-based game distribution exists.

So Xbone failing while it persists with DRM and anti-consumer policies = good for gaming over all and long term IMO.
Xbone achieving great success while operating with DRM and anti-consumer policies = bad for gaming over all and long term.
Xbone initially failing, then doing a 180 degree turn around on DRM and then achieving great success = awesome for gaming over all and long term.

That being said. I'm not going to deny I'm pro Sony and I'm happy to know that Sony is going to be back in first. Back where the Playstation brand belongs.

You can.

Yeah I didn't want one before, but honestly we should all care bout consumer rights, because you know, we ARE CONSUMERS. These are OUR RIGHTS. also I have never trolled them. not even about Kinect, which I consider flawed.

MS announce any GT for Xbone at E3?

i pretend alittle. I was planning on buying xbox one. The drm stuff gave me some pause, but i havent bitched about it much. My real complaint is the high cost and how ugly it is. The thang is butt fugly. But then again I thought the original xbox was sexy as all hell.

About drm.. my only concern is if you accidently buy a shitty game you aught to be able to sell it. But I come from two decades of no internet so Im kinda getting used to using web reviews and finding unbiased details that help me make good purchases.

I like halo. I like kinect. I dont like sony ips. I LOVE killer instinct!! If xbox one was $300 and small I would buy it. Until then I'll join the rest and scream outrage.

I'm sure that's their intent. But until they spell out exactly how they will achieve it technically and what the fool-proof measures are that will prevent an error I'd still regard it as a risk. Major Nelson can't make any guarantees about what MS will or won't do after he's either dead or retired.

In 20 years time MS's institutional memory about Xbone may be almost non-existent, such that some mid-level 25-year old exec (who played PS or Nintendo as a kid) sees that there are a whole bunch of ageing servers, servicing a small number of very old and obsolete devices. He or she might just flip a switch without realising the implications of doing so. When that happens the 10,000 or so people who still play the occasional Xbone game with go WTF! When the system bricks. But because they are such a tiny and insignificant segment of the community MS will flip them the bird when they complain. "Sorry about that, here, have a Xbox360. That's an offline device and it comes from the same era of gaming."

I won't have a PS4 in 15 years time. But if I was the sort of person who does keep consoles forever and takes the occasional trip down nostalgia lane I'd want devices that are not dependant on an enduring online service for inherently offline functions to work.

This is actually really good news if it's true.  I'll probably get one at the end of the console life cycle if that's the case.  Hopefully Xbox One doesn't get hacked to pirate games before the end of the systems life, but in the event that Microsoft doesn't stay true to their word of allowing us to play when servers are shut down.  Atleast we'll have a hacker who makes sure we still can.

The thing is.  I really don't believe Microsoft will go through with removing the 24 hour restriction and the authentication.  If those are removed, because all games are to be installed on the harddrive, then the Xbox One doesn't have to be hacked and any Xbox One game would play.  I just don't see Microsoft doing this, even if it's a dead console, because they could eventually rerelease those g ames one day.
