I don't thin Blockbuster even existed yet. I always kept my games back then I was just a kid but everyone kept their games. Now it's about beating the game as fast as possible and trading it in to get as much money back as possible. Kinda sad really |
I got my Atari 2600 for Christmas 1981. In 1982, there were a few music/video rental stores (Believe in Music, Crazy Larry's & Video Tyme) that bought, sold and rented used video games. There were also a couple of small video game only stores around me that bought. sold and traded video games. I grew up in a small suburb of Grand Rapids, Michigan. There were also a couple mail order companies that would allow you to send in your used games to trade towards other games.
a bit of trivia...At that time, most new games cost between $19.99 and $29.99 with a few in the mid $30's. I made the mistake of buying Pac-Man for the 2600 on release day for $34.99 and ended up trading it in a few weeks later as it, well, sucked.
