well, after playing mario world 3d, i was seriously considering buying a wii-u this christmas. for the 7 minutes i actually got to play that game it sucked me in. So i have to imagine it was enough make someone else buy the system. The only reason i'm still going to wait is i have soooo many games on ps3 i still need to beat before justifying a new console purchase. It's like that old saying with cereal boxes and toys "you can't open a new box, until you finish the last one."

What exactly is a system seller? Is it a game that sells 5+ million copies, or something that will boost sales by like 300% or something?

What exactly? Mario Kart and Smash are next year, and they are the only ones coming soon that would fit that description. Unless they somehow manage to get Wii Fit U to take off, but that could go either way.

Well DKC 3 is the only title in the series to not pass 5 million. Every 3D Mario have passed 5 million. Wii Fit is a sequel to a game that sold over 20m, it wont sell nearly that well but 5m isnt out of the question. Pikmin, Wind Waker, Sonic all have potenial to sell 2m+.


There is plenty of potential, but I wouldn't say any of those games are guaranteed right now. The Wii U is selling so badly, and the competition is doubling, so I would only really be sure of their most consistent ones. That would normally be 3D Mario as well as Kart and Smash, but the reception hasn't been that great for 3D World.

literally it's that title that makes someone buy a wii.  But really we're talking about the sales boost.  I'm guessing more like 75 - 100% though.

Why are so many people doubting Super Mario 3D World? It might not be a system seller for the people who frequent gaming sites, but the GP will definitely take notice. A price cut this Holiday would help a ton too and be a nice combo for Wii U sales.

I agree, to most it might seem like the true sequel to NSMB Wii, basically New Super Mario Bros 3D.

I just can't help but feel that:

A: Consumers are in Mario fatigue after NSMB2, NSMBU, 3D Land, and now 3D World all in two years.

B: NSMBU wasn't exactly a smash hit system seller.

C: It looks to conservative to draw in new consumers or much of the "core", and too samey to draw in casuals who will feel like, "well, we already HAVE a Mario game."

Would be crazy not to implement it I think. Nintendo added Pro controller support on Super Mario U with the Luigi DLC so I think they realized there's demand. Also, if it works on the gamepad it should work on the Pro controller 99% of the time. I know Pikmin 3 can be played with the Pro controller and Donkey Kong supports the Wiimote so there's a good chance it'll support the pro as well.

We've got a bit of a chicken-and-egg situation here. Some people think the holiday titles won't sell well because Wii U sales are so low, while others (like me) think Wii U sales are so low because they don't have those titles out yet.

As I said before, apart from the most devoted fans it takes more than 1 or 2 games to justify the purchase of a brand new console. The end of year lineup will provide those additional games for people on the fence and then Wii U will do just fine.
