What? Any proof for GT only one level of LOD? This would mean it doesn't LOD and this would also be very silly and doubtful to me. There is nothing wrong with LOD because if it is properly made you don't see it. And how do you know all the exact poly-counts?

I'm sure... GT5 didn't do that.

Forza Motorsport 3
LOD0: 172753 polys
LOD1: 45074 polys
LOD2: 21802 polys
LOD3: 13134 polys
LOD4: 6360 polys
LOD5: 2556 polys
Hi-res cockpit: 79845 polys

Forza Motorsport 4
500,000-1,000,000

Gran Turismo 5: Prologue
Cars - 200,000 polygons (probably interior + exterior)

Gran Turismo 5
Cars ~500K photomode

If GT5 uses LOD is only two... one for Photo Mode and other for the rest of the game but it is not confirmed due the lack of proof... and the cockpit view in GT5 don't use LOD (confirmed).

First: Thanks for the link!

BUT:
Please, ethomaz, you don't want to tell me that GT5 renders cars witl 500k polys if they are far away. This is stupid, unnecessary and a waste of computing time (in devs view). It doesn't make anythink look better, too, *because* it's far away.

Example:

In no way the first car (the most distant one) is rendered with 500k polys.

From what I know it is the same.

Enter into a 16 cars race (choose only premium cars)... get close the cars and you will see all have the same quality... you can do that with online friends (so you ask to left you get close)... all cars in the race are the same quality.

And I did a test now... the same car used in the Phone Mode is used in Race Mode... even the interior is the same.

There are a lot of discussion about that in GAF and seems like there are no LOD change in GT5... for any car.

I can be wrong but nobody until now could prove that there is change of LOD models in GT5... now in others games is easy to do that.

Ohh very pretty :)

From what I *see* it's not. I don't say they don't have the same quality but, again, *every* game does occlusion culling, for example. And every game does lod with different models. It is useless to discuss about it: you can clearly see that in my pic the car doesn't have 500k polys so there is another model of the car used. Why should GT5 do it otherwise?

Please give me a link to thread on GAF...

Nice, looks better than Drive Club. And I'm a PS4 day one buyer.

Game of the year 2017 so far:

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
1. Super Mario Odyssey

Holy cow. It's always nice to have amazing visual effects along with a solid gameplay

First of all...

The picture you showed before saying the car at front that you said to that have low polygon count... how can you say that from low quality picture? and what car it that?

About the links... that is discussed everytime in a GT5 x Forza thread... I think it is possible to have a low LOD model for cars that are not in the screen (I can't see that) but I have absolute certain all cars are the same when you get close to it even if you put 16 cars close one to each other in GT5.

I will search for the links for you.

Cars that aren't on the screen don't get rendered, so have a 0 polygon count. As you get closer to the cars the LOD increases so by the time you're near them they are at max LOD and look great, but the further away you get the lower the LOD, because you don't needlessly render unseeable detail. If PD don't have varying LOD then they are seriously wasting processing power.

Holy crap amazing.
