Forums - Sony - PS4 console in 3D, measurements: is the PS4 too small?? I'm worried about overheating, we need to talk about it.

I love how the PS4 looks. It's really sexy; check out this 3D montage someone made (anyone know who? so I can give credit):

I want to lick it... erhm, *cough* now back on topic.

According to Eurogamer PS4 dimensions are:

  • External dimensions: Approx 275x53x305mm (width x height x length -tentative, excludes largest projection)
That's really small. Is anyone else worried we may see overheating issues? Eurogamer claims it uses 'low power' CPU cores, and hopefully the GPU and RAM are optimized... so what do you guys think? Will the back-only vents be enough to keep the temperature of the tiny/super powerful PS4 low enough?

Not sure, but why is the X1 so big?

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

It's Sony, they're a hardware company, do you really think they're stupid enough to make it this small if they knew it would overheat and fail?

I doubt PS4's APU will be using more than 120-130W (considering 7970m has TDP of around 90W), so I don't think there will be problems with cooling.

it isnt small, just check out game trailers interview with jack tretton and its on the table. seems like the same size as a ps3 slim or a bit bigger

Look at the back, it looks like it will have no breath issue

It is not a Wii U but it is smaller than an Xbone. Being same roughly same size as PS3 slim also speaks volumes as how this console is small related to its power!

I hope you guys are right though - indeed the back is FILLED with vents.

If Sony are good at doing 1 thing, it is designing hardware, they won't let it overheat and break don't worry!

It does use low power CPU cores. Jaguar is AMD's low power processors. PS4 will use less power than the PS3 with its crappy Cell and awful XDR memory.

It uses old components so squeezing them in a smaller space shouldn't be a problem. In a way, the same happened with the Wii, only it used even older components (relatively speaking).
