Forums - Nintendo - So about Wii U sales this christmas

Will Wii U sell better this christmas with only this game as system seller?

Of course! 71 40.80%

No 52 29.89%

Is this for 3DS? 10 5.75%

Why is Retro working on DK?! 40 22.99%

Total:173

Holidays sales will of course be up from what they are now but probably not match last year's (same time period).

There's some good games coming but WiiU will be buried in the PS4/XboxOne/Ouya/Steam hype with very little to counter it. And even PS360 will have far more (directly comparable) games to offer than WiiU and likely both will receive price cuts undercutting WiiU even further.

Looks like 2014 will be the first year the system is worth consideration for many people and with PS4 priced at $399 (and Ouya (et al) at the opposite cheap casual end for $99), WiiU will need a $100 pricecut to seem worthwhile.

quite with this bullshit already. Regardless whether you like the game or not. Super Mario 3D world is going to sell well and it is going to sell the Wii U. It may not be the blockbuster like galaxy it will do the job well

Yes, it will sell quite well - but that's not what Wii U needs right now. It needs another Galaxy. This is more or less Super Mario 3D Land 2.

Given Wii U's current sales they have to make the system sell at all cost. It's the same situation as the 3DS (although not having Mario Kart along side 3D Mario might be an issue). Nintendo needs to make the system sell, I hardly think they care if 3D Mario pushes the Wii U's power, there are other tittles for that job.

It does have to sell at all cost, unfortunately it doesn't seem like Nintendo will make that happen. 3D World is not that system seller Wii U needs; it might have moved the 3DS - but this is not the 3DS.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

That would mean a weak 2013 holiday, not a 3rd place this gen. You are still on the "nerd rage" phase. I agree that 3D Mario is by far one of the biggest disappointments that has ever come from Nintendo, but that alone doesn't make the company sucks.

Nintendo is dropping so many balls that makes me wonder how they will recoup.... That IS a sucky company. They messed up the launch, they messed up the Spring and Summer. Not until August is it getting some solid releases - but they don't have a HUGE game until Mario Kart NEXT year. They've dun gunn messed up the first entire YEAR (and then some)

3D World counts as a huge game.

Either way, when we're talking about the 5-million tier, who among the competition even has individual games that can fight that? There's not much

People thought the same thing about New Super Mario bros U. Just because a game sells alot on a system, doesn't mean its a system seller. They really should have pushed mario kart for winter 2013. WIthout it they will suffer i think.

Why are you so sure things will be different? People said the exact same thing with Mario 3D Land, and looked what happened. The formula worked for the 3DS, it might as well work for the Wii U.

I fully agree that this is not the 3D Mario I want, but it's the game the Wii U needs, even if we don't like it at all.

Look at all you negative people. Wii U will definitely get a boost this holiday, how much is the question. Advertising is key.

Smartest post in this thread. The hype all over is crazy just for the few games coming. The general public is eating up these games like nothing because this E3 is very similar to the E3 where Donkey Kong, Kirby, Epic Mickey, and others (E3 2010 or 11?) were hyped. It's strong software that is familiar and will easily give Wii U a boost during the holidays with advertising and bundles. Nintendo knows what they're doing. They aren't as stupid as you want to believe just because they make games aimed towards the whole family.

And there will be no price drop/cut UNLESS their current efforts fail (which I will guarentee, they won't. Bookmark this).

NSMB is the type of game that has very long legs, but is not a system seller per se. The problem is that if you don't have other games for your system, no matter how powerfull the legs of the games are, the system and the game in question aren't going to sell. I bet that when the Wii U gets more sales, we will see NSMBU reaching much more higher numbers.

3D Mario and MK Kart are the type of games that make a system sell, and I agree that not having MK along side 3D Mario will really hurt Nintendo.

I know a lot of people were expecting Nintendo to hit it big with a new 3D mario and Mario Kart game this holiday season. Well, we've got one of those, with what can be called a mixed reaction, and Wii Fit U, another big name, may not release this year either.

They're looking to have a good 2014, but their 2013 is much weaker than some were predicting. I expect sales to increase, but not by nearly enough. Nintendo is predicting 9 million Wii U consoles sold this year...if they hit even half of that, I will be surprised.

I believe in honesty, civility, generosity, practicality, and impartiality.

The holiday lineup is quite good actually.

- Mario 3D World (up to 10m sales potential - yes, really. Believe it or not.)
- Donkey Kong Country (5m sales potential)
- Sonic Lost world (2m sales potential probably)
- Wii U Party (probably 1m or so)

The disappointing things were:
- No Wii Fit U this holiday (I guess it's march 2014 now)
- Wii U Party instead of Mario Party (which would sell a lot more)
- Mario Kart early 2014 is a huge bummer
- No Wii Sports U shown (seriously WTF Nintendo? Is Wii Sports the next abandoned best selling series like 2D Mario?)

2014 should be a better year for the Wii U though in terms of mass market appeal with Mario Kart U, Art Academy, Wii Fit U and the 2013 holiday titles already out. The console should also be cheaper by then.

I think the Wii U will sell good enough.

ok... i think it will not sell much to people here in vg chartz....
i guess they are targeting entry level gamer....
but damn nintendo played a risky move....

i hoped for a better list for this year.....
