Forums - Sony - For those with your head in the sand (PS4 DRM)

Unless Sony is lying (possible), PS4 - the console - won't have DRM. PS4 games however definitely will, because some PS3 games, and almost all recent games with MP elements, already have DRM.

Some publishers will extend DRM to offline play, but hopefully not all.

Thus PS4, like PS3, is a DRM neutral platform. Preferrable would be an Anti-DRM platform, but that would be delusional thinking if you truly thought that might be the case. Xbone on the other hand is a pro-DRM platform by having compulsory elements which facilitate DRM on all games. So PS4 is much like PC in that neither platform has DRM built into the OS. Xbone is the outlier and hence is worthy of criticism.

I'll be very disappointed if Sony implements DRM beyond online pass for its 1st party titles.

What's the sitch with Wii U, can publishers put DRM on Ninty games?

It's my understanding that publishers can extend DRM to anything that connects to their servers (online passes)... I'd like to know where you got the idea that publishers can extend DRM offline though

You do realise that you're all arguing over something you don't yet know the full details?

What Sony is implementing or not is still in the air. But it's a real treat to see all the XBO supporters come in here wishing Sony will implement something worse than MS...

If that's not desperation and trolling...

"You can continue being skeptical but there is no reason for it. No one is blindly supporting them. You clearly haven't read the OP. You being skeptical is more baseless and a logical fallacy ("There is no proof this isn't the case so this most likely is the case"). Me? I'm saying I will wait till there is at least smoke before I start thinking there is a fire."

Your bolded: I'm not arguing. Im stating that from whats been asked and whats been said there is no reason to think Ps4 will have any DRM. If you are going to claim that then you are using logical fallacies (parenthesis above)

You argue with the likes of J_Allard. There's no point arguing with him. The amount of spin he brings to every those kind of discussions is through the roof. He will defend MS no matter what. And in this case, since MS looks bad, then Sony must also look bad. ¬_¬

Yeah, I don't understand the threads about Sonys DRM being similar to MS. It's really not even close.

From where I am standing, are they not EXACTLY the same?

Both companies allow publishers to deny the right to resell games.  Both companies allow publishers to charge those who purchase used games an additional fee.  Both companies will not do this for their first party games.

True niether can stop 3rd parties from doing what they want

But they can decide what they are creating. What their hardware does and what not. They can decide if their console or "BOX" will be a DRM BOX or not

Exactly the same? You need to provide proof that Sony is doing anything more than online pass codes. Which you can't. It's sheer speculation on your part or flawed logic. All Sony has said is you can play used games, it wont require an internet connection, and if publishers want to make a system that requires an online registration (key codes AKA online pass) they can. I don't see how you can come to your conclusions with the information provided. Especially since it's obvious there is no DRM uniformly incorporated into the system unlike MS... so how could they possible enforce it?

Yes... like this gen (PS3).... nothing changed.

I don't know why people keep saying, "I fully expect Sony to implement something very similar" or "Now lets wait to see what Sony has to say."  The questions have been asked and Sony has answered.... numerous times since the reveal.... yet people still doubting. Its ridiculous.

because sony haters cannot fathom sony being any better than microsoft when sony has proven time and time again that they are a more pro gamer company. with everything falling dwn around them they cannot afford to lose their fanbase and you can see it in their sincerety while at shows. they cannot fathom ms being the only company that is that evil and the shock makes them want sony to go down with them so they can rationalize the madness.

EA, Activision, UbiSoft and probably capcom will require to register your game online to block used sales or make money with it.

Sony will continue to implement online passes to get money from used game sales as well.

I am certain of that.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

So tell me oh wise one, how can the implement an online registration if the ps4 has no internet connection? Hmmm...
