Forums - Gaming - How is the Ones and Steam's internet service different?

The difference is, with Steam you can at least buy games at a bargain (often $5-$10 for full retail games). Even though the system still sucks, at least you get screwed out of a lot less money. With Xbone, it's like the shitty aspects of Steam, combined with the overpriced $60 full-retail games.. Sounds like a great deal to me!

And again a reasonable discussion gets out of control due to exaggerations. You won't find a $60 console game for $5-$10 on Steam.
PC games were always cheaper than console games to begin with.

Recent examples

BioShock Infinite --> Steam: 49.99€ , Amazon.com: $39.95
Borderlands 2 --> Steam: 39.99€ , Amazon.com $24.99
Resident Evil Revelations: Steam: $39.99€ , Amazon.com $46.87

This is the Steam store in Germany though. Can't access the American one at work.

Sure Steam has some great deals every now and then and I already took advantage of that, but you exaggerate.

Sure, Steam still releases many games at $60, but they often drop quick, and they have the winter and summer sales in which many recent games are on sale for the price range I mentioned. That's the only time I will use steam to buy games, and I suspect I'm not alone. I highly doubt there will be many Xbone games hit that price. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of Steam, but at least they have some great deals at times, something I don't see happening often with Xbone.

Steam games are playable (most of the time) without having to sign in, they don't need to check you every 24 hours

What's so bad about steam? I found it almost faultless

Steam has an offline mode, which you can use for up to several weeks.

Also, games are really cheap compare to consoles. There are AAA games on sale every day, in the range of 3-10 euros. Of course you don't really "own" the games, but for 5 euros, who cares?

If consoles adopt this pricing model, then I wouldn't really mind blocking used games on PS4/Xbone. But always online at 60 euros a pop just isn't reasonable.

Eh it would only suck if there's an internet outage and I think this has never happened to me in my life (outages happed to me, but none that took 24 hours or more to solve). Maybe these people should blame their internet providers instead of Microsoft when outages happen.

MS is trying to make a console that is console, PC and entertainment system all in one.

The DRM of PC and X1 games are very comparable as many pointed out already, except that PC gamers don't nearly complain as much about it than others.

PC games have serial numbers. Once activated there is a good chance it's tied to an account, which basically diminishes the used game price, since no one else can access the multiplayer.
Even more extreme with Steam or Origin.

Account sharing is definitely not an option, since it's against Steam policies.
Friends can turn into assholes very fast (I know that) and if they change the passwort and take over the account it's over. Steam might ban the account so your friend can't use your credit card number and stuff, but I wouldn't expect to get the account back.

Being online once every 24 hours is definitely possible for the majority of 360 owners, but obviously not for all. Should definitely have an negative impact on the emerging markets, but also not as big of a problem as people make it out to be, especially the people on gaming forums that log in daily. Even the "I'm accessing the site over my phone blah" wouldn't be a reason, since you could just set up a WiFi hotspot with said phone and then log into Xbox Live.

As for deals it's obvious that Microsoft can't offer competitive prices when compared to Steam. PC games will always be cheaper, why do some expect them to change ?
That doesn't mean that all games are expensive though. There were some great sales recently (especially the Ultimate Game Sale).

Comparing Steam with Xboxone lol... You know Steam has offline mode right, it also has tons of cheap games and deals, the primary reason people use it.

Steam has offline mode.
Steam is guaranteed to have cheap games over time, something that MS is going to have to really push/prove for people to "jump in".

Only advantages so far for XBox 1 are:
Exclusives from 1st Party
TImed Exclusives
The ability to "share" or "directly sell" games to other users. You can't trade in your steam games, you are stuck with them. But again, the price negates alot of this.
All XBox One games will have discs, but oddly enough once you install the game your pretty much done with them. Most PC games are download only format.

It's just that simple.

So after reading this thread: Xbox 1 offers more freedom than Steam, but that was obvious in the first place.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Many differences have been said already so I will just state my stance on steam. I will only use Steam if a must have game requires it. I could say the same for Xbox One? Not really because the console will be 500$ (Console, Xbox live, controller) or so and steam is free.
