Awesome platforming levels

New powerups (returning old ones don't count and they actually have to give you NEW benefits)

How about not-modal powerups. As in, they're not required to be used for X segment and then discarded.

Non-modal powerups: Mushroom, Fire Flower, Wing Cap, SMW Yoshi

Modal: Cloud Mario, SMG2 Yoshi, Vanish Cap

Galaxy reduced powerups to gimmick puzzles rather than a risk/reward thing.

..3D Marios have a health bar for a reason....in contrast to 2D Mario games !

I would like them to return to the more open levels of Sunshine and 64, Galaxy 1&2 are the crown jewels of linear 3D Platformers, but it with 3D Land being rather similar, a non linear approach would be interesting !

Another gorgeous fully orchestrated soundtrack.

Right, but it's the taking freedom away from the player thing I don't get.

At least allow one to keep the Cloud powerup after use, or Yoshi between levels. They don't because they're scared it'll let the player do too much in other places, maybe skip some of their precious level design. Guess what: good games let people bend rules through their own skill. Not every detail needs to be designed down to the last pixel.

I want what I've wanted since Mario 64 came out. I want a game that actually lets me roam/play around in a huge, 3D representation of the Mushroom Kingdom. And by that I mean I want to be able to go to all the of lands that were in SMB3, and even have a condensed Dinosaur Island from World. I want to be able to really experience in epic glory all of the majesty and wackiness that the Mushroom World obviously contains, but we've never been able to FULLY experience before, and no 3D Mario yet has allowed us to do.

That's what I want. I want basically a 3D Mario 3 type game. Not like 3D Land, with the Mario 64 type levels. I want huge sprawling lands to run and jump around in. And not so much of a focus on "Do this, Get this Star". Mix up the dynamic, have stars as something you get to unlock things, not just collectable to get further in the game. I want the game to be so fucking big that you actually need warp pipes to get from place to place.

THAT'S the 3D Mario I've always wanted to play.

I want Mario Universe

Has much content and secrets than Super Mario World

How about a castle which can travel through time?? You free roam in this castle which is huge (10x the size of the castle in SM64) and the levels represent time peroids.

Here the story:

Bowser is building a machine which can manipulate time and space. Mario tries to stop him but gets cought in the process. Bowser then sends Mario back in time. After the travel Mario stumbles across the ancestor of Princess Peach. Mario explains the situation to her and she willingly agrees to help him out. Somehow they manage to built a "time-core" which they implement in the center of old Peach's castle allowing them to travel through time. But in order to travel further into the future the "time-core" needs more energy in form of "time-stars" which are scattered around many places in different time periods.

At the end they manage to gather enough power to travel to the present time and witness the events of Mario being caught and send back to the past. This will be the best opportunity to face Bowser off guard.

Something like that...

....well if thats too irritating...a normal castle is good enough, too ;)

Yes, I AM aware of this! That that game was not developed by Nintendo. I think they can make a fabolous adventure with time travel... But whatever we will be seeing in 8 days, I'm sure we won't be dissapointed ;)

unless they pull an educational game....
