Forums - Microsoft - Cloud Processing won't mean a thing for the Xbone

The Cloud will...

Significantly improve games 63 12.57%

Improve some games somewhat 65 12.97%

Might be used well here and there 101 20.16%

Merely PR BS 271 54.09%

Total:500

There is a lot of buzz lately about the how the cloud will change everything, not only in gaming but in general.

What many seem to ignore is that internet infrastructure does not improve at the same rate as silicon. The cost of GPU power for example, has massively improved in the last 5 years. The cost of bandwidth on the other hand, has improved only slightly, and in some areas of the world, not at all.
In the long term, it is a lot cheaper to buy the latest hardware and perform your computing tasks locally, than it is to use a proxy server. The operating costs of bandwidth used & server costs in a cloud computing scenario, simply outweigh the initial investment and electricity costs of hardware that is used locally. This is especially true for graphics rendering because massive amounts of data are involved, and thus, even more bandwidth is needed.

I expect the cloud to remain a data storage service in the future and nothing more. If/when massive breakthroughs occur in the development of internet infrastructure, then things could change.

Oh good, more armchair analysts

Thanks for the useless comment!

Actually, I wouldn't undervalue the opinion of the gamers here. For instance, I've owned NES, Megadrive, PSOne, PS2, GC, Xbx, PS3, X360, Wii, and I (literally) live with two indie devs.

NOT TO MENTION that

Oh good, more armchair analysts

begs me to ask what the hell you're doing on a videogames forum.

For one, I don't much feel like getting into an argument with you, because I've seen a lot of your comments around here, and most of it is rubbish.

There are clearly developers who have already said that they will be able to make good use of the X1's cloud capabilities, so this entire thread basically amounts to blablabla.

And I'm on a video game forum to talk about games/consoles with other people who share the same passion. Interestingly enough, there's a large group of people here, who's only passion seems to be talking shit about companies/products they don't personally support.

Have a nice day

So you came into the thread only to belittle the topic creator?

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Of course. That's soooo much better than being a little negative/concerned/skeptical about the company he personally supports ... Is it not?

Some devs seem to think it's the way to go... devs like Nintendo and Avalanche Studio... those who call this BS are mostly indie devs...

I don't know what to think myself but since I don't know how this is supposed to work I will wait until they show it working.

Everything about Xbox One seems bad in some people's agenda so trying to explain what's already available on the net is tireing.
Some devs seem to think it's the way to go... devs like Nintendo

I'm open to being wrong, but I don't recall Nintendo EVER saying ANYTHING about cloud processing!? WTF!?

Everything about Xbox One seems bad

Maybe there's a reason for that.

So people can't be skeptical, in your world?

They need to blindly praise anything you blindly accept as the second coming of Christ?  No questions asked, ever?

That's what you're here for?

It would be nice for the same 10 posters or so that constantly whine about the XBO to actually give Sony and the PS4 the same cynical pessimism, but they dont and wont.  This isn't skepticism for the most part is just blindly hating a product based on rumor and speculation having seen neither product in real life performance.  We didn't even see the PS4 running the games at their reveal yet everyone blindly believes everything they saw on screen.

Will cloud computing be beneficial in future or not remains to be seen and I credit the OP for at least putting his opinion out there, what find annoying is that anyone who disagrees with him should post in his thread.  To disagreee in this thread would mean being set upon by the same posters who always gang up on other users and shouted down with the same baseless arguments already had in dozens of threads (wah wah wah, the internets not fast enough).  Frankly the same shit is getting old very quickly now and I really cannot be bothered posting on the forums at the moment as its impossible to avoid the mountain of trolls ploughing through every Microsoft themed thread.

HOW ABOUT this radical concept...

Supporting the company/products that appeal the most to one's own taste?

For instance, I was gaming mostly on 360 until late 2009. After that - PS3 by a landslide. They as a company are just more appealing to me. And if they start sucking (which is what MS are doing at this moment imo), then I'll have to be negative towards them as well.

It's not fanboyism. It's being critical of things you don't like. I do believe consumers are allowed to do that?

Slow day at Sony camp. But seriously does anybody have any informative article to share?

So being skeptical = being a hater? Are you suggesting I'm a hater?

Because that would be laughable, if that's the case.  If not, I can understand your point to some extent. But I've seen plenty of MS fans doubting that feature as well. So what's the big deal. As far as I'm concerned, I'm not saying it's impossible. I'm saying I'm skeptical it can provide as big a performance boost as they claimed it can during the reveal event.  I'm also skeptical about it because they haven't yet provided any actual demo that showcased the possibilities. It's all PR at this point.

And I'll make this clear: I don't doubt the PS4 will push the graphics that were shown during the reveal event, the same as I don't see a reason to believe the Forza 5 and Quantum Break's footage weren't actually in-game graphics.  So, sorry, if I'm skeptical about one thing about the XBO's cloud processing supposed game changing feature... There was just not much to question about the PS4's event when it comes to the specs of the console.

Oh, yes... At what clock is its CPU running?

Lol @ OP. Why should we come in here and prove you of your wrong? You already have your opinion and you seem to think you can't be wrong while you're already proven to be wrong. Avalanche ( an actual dev WOW) said there are some things they can do with the cloud. It maybe isn't much but it is something. So I voted for the third option because I believe an actual dev above some random biased forumposter
