Forums - Gaming - Xbox One cloud is 'one area console has advantage over PS4', says Avalanche tech lead

So many armchair analysts here acting like they're experts on any given subject. Time will tell just how much of an advantage Microsoft's cloud system ends up being for the X1, but the fact that it's one clear advantage that they have is undeniable.

well done.  that wasnt so difficult was it.

Yeah i had my fingers crossed though, so it dont count. ;)

But you can keep living in your fantasy world, rather than having a proper discussion.

Lol a dev says something and now it's pr spin? LOL, Forum users are more believeable right? right?

but its not ms pr. This guy in this article is not from Microsoft. The fact he is excited by it means its not some ms pr fabrication. This guy intends on using it for things like ai, cloth and physics.

i read the other article. And at no time do df claim they have seen any info on the cloud system Microsoft are using. Or seem to have any idea what these devs speaking out about good things actually know.

again. Ill listen to this non Microsoft dev who clearly sees processing benefit.

Exactly what I said a page ago but nobody seemed to listen :P

Btw a 200mbit/s steady line in Sweden costs me 30$ ! At the start of this gen I paid 40$ for 5mbit/s. Sure this may be sweden but just look at the numbers and apply them on other countries and you've got yourself a good investment in some years

Nice. Ill listen to an actual developer who intends on using the cloud for processing over a guy who works for df at eurogamer. Rofl. But if you want to listen to an editor and not a third party pub who is gonna use then yeah cool.

You really should read the article, because it's Digital foundry that gives all the info and they know their shit.

Are you being serious right now? I know DF has credibility but to put them over a dev who's going to use the tech/already using the tech is just too much. Avalanche is not a MS 1st party so they sure as hell isn't getting money from MS to make games which makes his point even more credible.

It's a shame some forum users cannot comprehend what is wrong with the concept of cloud computing. But there is just no convincing some users who are entrenched in a particular product.

So all i can say is enjoy your cloud computing. Have fun :)

Whether Xbox One games perform will better than PS4 titles (or vice-versa), however, is "too early to say," Blomberg adds.

"I think [Xbox One and PS4] will be very similar in the end," Blomberg says. "Of course, if we find areas where either platform is particularly strong then we'll take advantage of that. But it's too early to say if our games will look better on any of the two platforms. All I can say is that there's potential for visually stunning games on both platforms."

even he states it right here. They don't even know for sure that it will be better.

Seems to me that the DF article and this developer's interview go pretty well together. The DF article mentioned that one area where a lot of the problems he cited for cloud computing wouldn't be an issue would be helping to load large open-world games. That's exactly the type of game Avalanche makes so the two seem to fit in line perfectly.

Not sure where the argument is coming from. It'll be interesting to see if this cloud computing service makes a notable difference for any 3rd party multiplatform games.

Dude, I've read the df article, I get how it works. The fact a dev is excited to use it says a lot. I'm not entrenched in a particular product. Whats wrong with you

I agree with him on that because we still haven't seen any game take advantage of the full power of either console.

But what the main thing in this article is trying to acomplish is simply that there is a big potential for some things in games to take advantage of the cloud - its not for pixels, not for polygons and certainly not physics but things that are fixed like the lightning or the additional AI in the background in open world games.

This is where the cloud could shine and I am highlighting could because I myself am not sure how that's going to happen(current internet situation) but I am not dismissing it before seeing it like all lot of other guys are doing on this thread so you can remain sceptical or whatever but please don't just dismiss something before even seeing an example of it in real-time.

I'm not our right dismissing it, but to say it has an advantage over the ps4 raw horse power is false and more than of a crutch than an advantage.

This graph for gaf should clear things up or make it more cloudy..
