Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What if Nintendo does the same thing with Used games?

I would switch to PC gaming as STEAM will work on any PC i link and does not rely on "generations" to work.

Once next get in over and all services are off, you are screwed on a console. Not because of used games but because if your system dies and you buy a new one, you are screwed as you can't activate your own owned games.

I am with you on Steam, but I am already there, same thing with "Origin" for the last few dollars EA got out of me.

If their games were accessiable on a Wii U in the manner Steam games are accessiable on a PC would it be better, the PC does not have much of a used games market these days, especially with so much digital distribution, we accepted that quite readily over the years (PC Gamers)

Well is too late to unbuy my wii U, but my reaction will depend if it is the ONLY ONE doing it or if it ALSO doing it.
If it is the only one I will stop buying games for the console, being Zelda the only exception.
If it is also doing it, no so much problems as I will have the console anyway and I usually don't buy used games, It would be a pain cause I do lend some of my games to friends, but is also so many times
It is more of a moral rejection than a real problem for me.

I would find Satoru Iwata and slap him over the face with a large wet fish.

I'm guessing you didn't read my last post, you should do that with Iwata's successor... And I really want to see that! XD

I would cry, hug my Super Nintendo dearly and then play Super Monkey Ball.

Oh I got no issues with DRM on PC cause as I said steam has no time limit (unless valve go bankrupt)

Problem with consoles is they eventually end services. Hell you don't even have to end the generation to see that a lot of multiplayer games that launched no have no servers avialable.

Now imagine DRM on a console, once they move onto next gen then DRM authentication will not happen. So how will I be able to demonstrate to the console that I own these games? Only solution I see is that at the end of the gen they remove the DRM. That way I will be able to play my old games on any console I want (should one fail and I need replacing).

I think Nintendo is at a stand-off with EA on this issue as we speak.

They see it as bad for the consumer and therefor said no. Which caused EA, DRM champion #1, to blacklist Nintendo.

Nintendo will only follow suit IF the other 3rd parties also start to blacklist Nintendo. Considering that this has not happened yet, I'm fairly confident we'll see big 3rd party support from everyone else at E3.

Otherwise Nintendo will have to put out a firmware to add the same locks as they don't have the same momentum Wii had and therefore cannot have another gen of absolutely zero AAA 3rd party support.

I might stop playing all together...

And about The Nintendo vs. Let's Players, I'm surprised no-one made a thread about this. I always wonder when Nintendo and other companies would start going after them (blimey, Sega made it clear this would happen, but they went on full over the top force). But that's the thing, they only go after Let's Players, mostly the ones that basically showing the games from starting to end with little to no such editing... You can't expect to make money off of that forever, can you??? The thing is Nintendo is not even taking off the videos! When other companies out-right did so!!! O.o
The ones that do more than just editing and commentaries, yes, I can see we are stepping the gray area. Now people like Gaijin Goombah should be in the clear, they actually do alot more than just show, they don't even show the whole game for Pete's sake. They're more for educational purposes. So Nintendo, don't you dare take their money, I can see that's fair use/derivative work!

And what's so fishy about this, is that not just Nintendo is doing this but others gaming companies are going after them as well, it's just the Nintendo Let's Players are the ones that are vocal about, I didn't see any other fans from other companies crying about it! If you have, then by all means, show them to me!

The issue there was that they were making money off them. I doubt Nintendo would give a damn if the LPers weren't collecting ad revenue.

Sega's was the bad response, there, to have them taken down altogether.

Didn't I made clearthat it's the money the reason? Forgive me if I didn't point it out... >.<
