Ill await the final verdict, as the current Marketecture doesnt make a whole lot of sense.
Hopefully MS can find someone to actually EXPLAIN wtf they mean.

I hope it isn't too late and they change their minds about that. Do you think TV functionality will be restricted to gold sevice also? I'm pretty sure that skype will be. |
I have no idea. The HDMI in port will not be behind the pay wall, any guide or other data in an overlay probably is.
Skype, pretty sure that won't work. And will there still be a basic messaging system without gold.
I don't see the point of the HDMI in port anyway. As far as I know it can't record from it (my cable provider wouldn't allow that anyway) And I have everything switched through an amplifier, connecting the cable pvr to the xbox one makes no sense.
Now if it had 4 hdmi in ports and could do the switching with picture in picture / side by side for different inputs, yes please. But 1? useless.
"exactly the same as owning a physical disc"
This is bs, what if I want to borrow a single player game from a friend and play it when he isn't here? I can't do that. I also can't tell me friends "check this game out, it's awesome" and lend it to him.
This model only works for Multiplayer games, or co-op games which would be played exclusively with the owner. This does not worth for single player RPG's, and I think it's a stupid system.
----
Plus full MSRP to install the game? I wouldn't mind that, but Microsoft sells digital games at inflated prices on the 360.
I mean Halo 3 is still a $40 on the 360, I can pick this up for $15 retail. Fable 2 is $35 on XBL, and also only $15 used.
One, is just too expensive for me now, especially since I'm forced to buy all my games at over inflated prices (old games are hard to find "new").

Someone correct me if I read this wrong, but here is how I was reading it. Mind you I am exhausted.
#1.) I buy a XBox One title and bring it home.
#2.) I install it on my machine and the game is linked to my Live account.
#3.) Due to being linked to my account, I do not require the disc to play it.
#4.) I lend the game to a friend.
#5.) Friend installs the game to his XBox One.
Now (2) different things happen from this point on.
#1.) Friend can play the game without the disc as long as he is logged into my Live account or purchases the game on Live with his account. (A purchase grants him his own validation key, enabling him to play the game without having the disc)
#2.) Friend can play the game as long as my disc in the in his XBox One since the data installed is linked to that disc.
I am only seeing it this way because he keeps mentioning "When you take your disc home".

The Disk only works when it's connected to your account, it's merely a took to aquire the game without wasting bandwidth. It doesn't make the game run after the initial install, unless your account is active.
So the problem is, say you loan a friend a game. While your account is on his XB, it works fine, but say you want to go home and play something else. Well you have to retreive your account and then your friend can't play the game anymore, even if he physically has the disk.
---
It would be smart to have the game playable on every system with your account. Then this wouldn't be a problem, have a separate account on your friends XB, that way anytime you're over you can sign in and get achievements.
However this still doesn;t fix the used game price spike issue. Old games on XBL just don't get as cheap as they do retail. Forcing me to buy games like (in the example of X-Box 360) Halo 3 and Fable 2 for $35, 6 year old games which sell for $15 retail, is insane.

Would be nice if it worked like that. But all games need to be installed I think.

I am thinking more about the used games shity thing. Often on the PC your disc is rendered useless if you don't have a cd key and besides not all games use any of these systems(origin and steam)

As I said, I was exhausted.
I jsut saw it that way because he mentioned that when you take your disc home, the "bits" (I assume the installed files) are still on the friend's console.

You don't need used games on PC when you can buy them for $5 and keep them forever since there are no gens...
Sounds like the security is disc based to me the game installs on every console you put the disc into but without the disc you can buy the game from LIVE if you want to play without the disc. It seems to make sense to me. As long as you have the disc you can play the game anywhere, without the disc you need to buy the digital unlock code to play the game.
