Forums - Gaming - Confirmed: Always online basically required to access games/You need to purchase seperate game on different account no sharing allowed

Can someone list a benefit for the user end for having a console that is always online? I understand that having internet connection is great and lets you do a lot of things, but consoles do that now. What benefit is there to have to be online?

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

I find it creepy the Kinect is always "on" i'll probably disconnect it when i finish playing.

In order to play a game you have to connect to the internet to activate it right? What about countries that do not have access to Xbox Live. For me the Xbox 1 would be an overgrown paperweight. Xbox Live availability.

Its also funny that if more than one person plays the console on your home (like a brother) and you have different account, you have to buy the same game twice if you both want to play it.

Microsoft: Welcome to the next generation of nickle and dime.

I doubt it will work that way. There was another thread floating around here confirming that all 'sub' accounts on the same physical console are granted the features and functionality of Xbox Live, if the 'main' account on the physical console is the only account that holds a subscription. I assume game sharing will work the same way.

"I can give that disc to somebody else - maybe my son who has his own Xbox One somewhere else in the house - and he can install and play it on his machine. I can come to your house with that disc, I can install it on your machine and we can play it and while I'm with you we can have all of the capabilities of that game.

"The moment I go home and notionally take that disc with me, you no longer have the ability to play that game. But the 'bits' are on your hard drive, so if you want to play that game you can buy it - you can go to the online store, buy it and it's instantly unlocked and playable on your machine. All of the privileges I just described in my house would now apply in yours as well."

As long as you have the physical disc which is tied in with your account.

Call me skeptic, but they arent mentioning something important here.

They say the game is tied to the account. Doesnt that mean that other people with the disc can only play it with the disc and my account login? I doubt they will be able to play on theirs. If you can play the game in any account aslong as you have the disc then its alright.

mixed with tremendous PR spin by microsoft

- You can watch blu ray movies, and access certain game features when the console is off line

- You cannot play the same game you purchased on a different account, every game you purchase is tied to your one account

Microsoft also states the XBOX one will probably be the last console you need to buy

you should at least mention that for that statment it is your xbl account and that MS has confirmed (to support families) your account have multiple users created.

Actually no, no it's not.

Internet is only on installation to verify it is a new game. You can also share your game on any accoun that is also on your console. thirdly you can take your game to a friends house and play it there without paying. As long as you have the physical disc. That person just cant play it without the disc like you can.

so buy a new game... play it without disc then share the cd? so two games in one? i dont think MS would like to lose money like that....

Since this obviously doesn't apply to you, why do you care?

Exactly.  Considering the new features, they had to cut that off basically the same as with PC games (and basically ALL digital purchases on XBLA and PSN ...).

As the picture is slowly coming to clarity for me (I may start a thread later), this seems like a way for PUBLISHERS to get all of the pre-owned sales instead of just retail.  Publishers could set a preowned price to activate a game based on its age, just like retail does now.  Maybe Gamestop and the publishers will work out a deal to share the profits, but regardless GS WILL see a huge hit in profits.  And they should.  They were exploiting of a technical and market situation for years at the expense of game publishers and now it's coming to roost.

The only place I definitely see this as unfair is with game trading, borrowing and renting.  Not sure what they can do that gamers won't find a way to exploit, but it sure would be nice if they could come up with a solution that doesn't cost us more than it does now.
