For the amount of money these systems cost, it should be a given feature. Especially, if you think adding TV functionality is a good idea...

By and large, true gamers at least appreciate games past and current whether it's played on a backwards compatible console, the original console the games were made for, or some other means such as emulation. So wouldn't that imply that those who do appreciate and play older games are also backward and not worth Microsoft's time and resources? What an ass! Yes, Microsoft is a business, but you have to appeal to an audience to make money to gain their business. Obviously, it's an audience further and further away from the core gaming crowd.
I think all the Halo players would disagree!

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

I would've bought the one day one with bc but they don't have bc so they will wait for my money as there are still so many games left this gen I have to buy and finish.

Disappoint 12% of your userbase with no BC, another 12% with online requirements, another 12% with used game restrictions and sooner or later you're talking about real customers.
Just have a look at installed bases on the main page of this site and knock one of them down by 30%. 20 million units, no big deal, right?

stop making stuff up, it was a huge deal.. everyone went beserk, but they did it to launch a $399 console at the time, whie still offering PS2 with another model at the time

For me, it's not a huge deal since I will still have my PS3 until it gives out, its just inconvenient.
Can someone explain to me why Sony gets a free pass on this and not Microsoft?
12% of overall consumers would be unhappy without backwards compatibility.
What percentage of *early adopters* would be unhappy? That's the number that matters. Why? Because those are the people who are going to be ushering in and helping to grow your new fan base. (I'm saying this because I would imagine that the early adopters are the ones who care more. It's easier to invest in a new console that was just released when you can use it to replace your existing one).
