Oh, that mini could come out large! At least MS won't drop it like the first xbox and 3rd-party will support it because of the big target-group. Has there ever been a stronger generation saleswise?

Yes they are. Theyre competing for shelf space. Theyre competing for consumers money. Theyre competing. End of.
There is no longer any such thing as "dedicated gaming hardware". Though there is hardware where gaming is the priority and its still very successful.

how will sony respond? can they? |
With a $70-$150 price cut to $199-$149
Easy

I doubt that they already optimized the hardware that much that it would still make money at $149. Oh, they cut of course sell anyone the crappy 12gb-version of the console with mandatory installs...
MS will achieve this price especially because of the rumored redesigned chip.

and that will compete with a $99 360? what an odd thing to say. the ps3 is its competition... I love how we think focussing solely on games will work in the home but we mostly accept that it doesnt work in handhelds now... especially when in the home the focus makes even less sense than it does in a handheld. Its all just a little piece of history repeating itself. Remember Vita... he fought hard.... |
It. Doesn't. Need. To.
PS3 and and 360 are already dominant in their respective markets and that is unlikely to change. Further price drops and games are won't change that. PS3 has no hope in overtaking the 360 in the US and the 360 us unlikely to overtake the PS3 in Europe and Japan.

Prolly release the 12gig in the US, and carry on being slightly more expensive world wide but still selling more worldwide in a shorter time. Sony have had 2 gens of amazing and unprecedented after Gen support so i doubt we will see anything differnt this time, especially as Playstation is finally profitable again.
Really hope MS can do the same, last time did leave a bad taste, but we know it wasnt totaly there fault.
I could see a small one in the style of the one, that would look good above or below it, plug it into that hdmi in on the back of the one and it might even feel like its truley Backwards compatible. :D
| Proclus said: This was said yesterday I think, people just chose to ignore it for whatever and decided that Microsoft is going to abandon the 360 like it was with Xbox even though the scenarios aren't even remotely similar. Microsoft and Third Party aren't going to abandon a ship with 77M consoles. |
Nobody thought this
Everybody in the industry should be able to tell you that MS have been trying to get that Sony image of supporting the system for 10 years plus. They've basically said it numerous times over the years

I hope it's a snazzy redesigned mini 360 with the new UI, that'll keep me going till I pick a X1 up.

Why, is your old box broken?
