How so? Other than the fact that Nintendo has a decade long tenure in this field with quite a few staple series to go to, its offerings are very similar in variety just as the Vita has. There was a thread a while back that showed for every good 1st Party 3DS title there was a pseudo Vita equivilant which was just as good(as far as concensus and reviews) but no where near the hype or visibility. Gravity Rush vs Kid Icarus comes to mind...

The main reason I would never buy a Vita is exactly because I am a hardcore gamer. I already spend way too much time playing video games at home, if I started taking them with me everywhere I would probably lose all pretence of a social life.

Maybe it's just me, but I think real gaming is something you do at home, not while you're out and about. I mean sure I might play some random little game on my phone for a few minutes while I'm taking the train or something, but I wouldn't try to use that time to play Killzone or whatever. I know there's quite a few people who would buy something like this and play it at home, but that just seems silly to me. I mean you got your HDTV and your home console right there so......what's the point?

Some people might argue it's a neat thing to have on vacation, but if I'm on vacation I don't wanna be playing video games. I mean that's hardly the point of going on vacation is it.

well sony figured enough loyalist will buy it just because sony made it. with the ps4 they expect the ps4 crowd to give life to the vita as one expensive controller.

confined to the couch vs leisurly anywhere. And the experience doesn't have to be mutually exclusive...hence Sony's push for cross play. Play on the big screen when you can, then take your same game on the go when you can't be in front of your TV.

1. Video Games are a Vacation from Reality, so why not play them on vaca when the whole point of one is to get away from your norm?

2. I ride the bus every day to commute to work, Vita is whats keeping me from gouging my eyes out during that mind numbing 2hr ride.

3. I hear this excuse a lot, many want to see their games on their really big screens. Its a totally valid reason. Yet you do know with the Vita's power and OLED screen, and with the minimal distance  between it and your face, its about the same. Its the same reason why at certain distances 720 and 1080 bore no difference, its about how close you are. I personally like to do everything in bed. Read, Surf the web on Laptop, watch TV, video games, etc. I know have the ability to play something like Uncharted(on Vita) while watching Netflix on the TV.

I'm sorry but that's just not my idea of a vacation, and like I said, I play enough games as it is.

Fair enough if you enjoy it, and anyone else who wants a system like the Vita. I'm just saying that I personally neither see the need, or practicality for such a device. The good news for those who do value it is that Sony will likely do their very best to push out quality software for it for quite some time. I have no doubt that most people who bought (or plan on buying) one won't regret the decision, but I'm just saying that for me personally, even as a hardcore gamer, I have no interest in owning one, and I could imagine I'm not the only one.

It's not for using on a "vacation", it's for use when you are generally away from home. On public transport, long journeys, staying with family, basically whenever you're away from home and you have a lot of time to kill, a portable games console is very useful. They can even be good for playing at home too, especially for a lot of people who have their consoles set up downstairs, portable consoles are good for playing in bed too.

I still have plenty of games I haven't played on my PSP and 3DS. I'll be ready for a Vita after price cuts.

Truthfully, the market that most literally is hardcore probably already supports the Vita or 3DS.

The 'traditional' Western market gamer that has been christened with the 'hardcore' label however have never been much for handheld gaming to start with. Add in the expense and relative bandwagon nature that the majority of them prescribe to it leaves systems like Vita on the outs unless something unique draws them.

It has been the same with all handhelds really, after all the original Game Boy had Tetris and later Pokemon to carry it. The DS had the Brain Training games and Nintendogs before they struck more traditional gold with Nintendo's big name franchises like Pokemon and New Super Mario. The PSP in Japan at least had several visual novels (hentai and non hentai) and Monster Hunter to propel that system to success in their region.

For the Vita and 3DS to gain more traction with the 'tradional/hardcore' in Western territories they need to find the next cash cow exclusive to their platforms.

When the Vita is less expensive, I will buy it. Untill then, 3DS is more than enough for me.
