I'm actually surprised how many people don't use Windows 8. Less resources used up was a surefire reason for me to get it. Just takes some getting used too but definitely not as bad as I had heard people raging of.

I've heard so many bad things about windows 8 which is why I went with windows 7.  Aren't a lot of games not compatible with windows 8?

I'm noticing a lot more AMD guys around these parts. No GeForce love? D:

My old gaming rig ran a 9800gtx. I chose AMD for my new rig because I'm on a budget and recently AMD has a much better performance to cost ratio on their midtier cards. I'm assuming a lot of other people had a similar rational. If money was not an issue I wold have continued using nvidia cards.

That list's prices are based off today's amazon/newegg prices.

Looking at the top 3 cards from each company

AMD cards have been getting much better deals, especially recently. For example Radeon 7850 has been on sale for $140 after rebate a number of times and they also included bioshock infinite/tomb raider/ far cry 3: BM.

30 performance to price ratio + free recent games.

The radeon 7790 has been on sale for $85 once after rebates and came with far cry 3 and BM and is constantly on sale for $110.

35 performance to price ratio + free semi recent game/usually 28 performance to price ratio plus free game.

Radeon 7770 has sold for $78 with free copies of far cry 3 and BM.

27 performance to price ratio + free semi recent game.

the 560 ti sold for $140-$30 rebate once, but looking through the slickdeal comments, the company, zodiac, is notorious for never actually sending out rebates.

32 performance to price/25 for those who didn't recieve their rebate.

660 sold for $175 with metro: last light.

23 performance to price ratio with free new game.

650 ti sold for $95 after rebate with $75 F2P game currency.

29 performance to price ratio with f2p game currency

I use my notebook mainly for work, so it gets the job done. But I also play some games here and there. Skyrim runs with 30 fps with high settings @ 720p. It's okay for me. My girlfirend is playing Sims 3 a lot which also seems to run nice enough. I'm also quite interested in the new Sim City, but I'm not sure if my Notebook can handle that game. What do you guys think, will that 2010 notebook be able to run Sim City in let's say, 720p with medium settings? 30 fps are more than enough for me, it's what I'm used to from consoles anyway.

I had my buddy help pick out the parts and build it about 21 months ago so I'm guessing it's mid-range, but I'm really not sure.

It's good enough for now, but i might upgrade the graphics for next gen, the processor should be more than good enough for now. But i don't know if it's worth it, i only really play Minecraft on the PC. I play everything else on the PS3, pretty much.

Even if they did good with efficiency etc., they screwed up with the UI so bad that I don't want to let MS think I can get over its flaws. I know I can install custom software to customize the UI but it's not the same thing. So yeah, I'm totally skipping Win 8 unless some kind of a miracle happens (or MS fixes the UI).

Hello.

You see, I built my rig years ago. So it's quite obsolete now, probably doesn't even count as a rig. But back then it kicked ass.

Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 2.4 GHz
2GB RAM (used to be 4, but Corsair fucked a DIMM and it died)
Replaced a good ol' 8800 GTS (the 640mb ones, oc'd) with a GTX 560 Ti
Case & PSU are Thermaltake branded.

From now on, I plan to buy two graphics cards for SLI, rather than picking a dual GPU device. I've heard scaling is better and I know Dual SLI is more efficient than either Tri or Quad SLI (why I never bought a second 690, for instance).

Indeed scaling beyond 2 GPU's has diminishing returns, however if you're sensitive to microstutter it does help greatly.
