Just about every Nintendo game lately harkens back to the olden days. I know some people will love it but remember the N64? Nintendo was miles beyond any developer at that time, with games that were absolutely mindblowing, cutting edge and just perfect. Playing Nintendo games now feels like a trip down to memory lane. And it bores me to death. |
Bad topic to make on this site mate.
Well, i can tell you- microsoft & sony really surprise me every time they release another generic FPS & use the same old controller for literally over a decade. Nintendo is just about the only gaming company that actually does surprise us now & again.

Zelda Skyward Sword and Xenoblade Chronicles were pretty mind-blowing, and those were quite recent. I firmly believe Nintendo's games over the last 7 years have been every bit as good as they were back in the SNES/N64 Golden Age.

It may include relevance, whether it is a household name and how well it sell. I'll do what you did and use metacritic as a qaulity measurement. Lets compare Nintendo highest rated game vs sony. Who wins? Lets compare which company has the more recognizable IPs. Who wins? Lets compare how well the IPS can sell a console. Who wins? Like someone posted earlier using metacritic as a qaulity measurement was your mistake |
I replied to that post with "What would you recommend I use to judge game quality then? Plus whatever you use to judge I doubt anyone can claim Nintendo brought more great new IP to the Wii than Sony did to the PS3.". I am more than happy to look at other ways to judge their respective quality, but I would disagree that sales or popularity would be accurate measures. Is Angry Birds the best game of the generation? You can look at highest rated game, and see what that says. The highest rated game Nintendo made was 97, highest for Sony was 96, but is this enough to tip it towards Nintendo? Anyway, this is off the point, I was just challenging your "If we compare the quality of IPS between nintendo and sony, we all know who wins." and "Quality over qauntity and no doubt Nintendo has the qaulity" comments, as that is clearly very debatable.
But look at the point of my post. I am showing how Sony is now producing comparable quality IP to Nintendo. Could anyone say that was true a generation ago? I was demonstrating the importance of new IP, and how for Nintendo to keep their record for "most quality games" they are going to have to create new IP as well. The fact that Nintendo even let it get debatable shows that they need to do more.

You should really check your facts before. Ocarina of time -99. No biggie anyway
@ We are taking about qaulity of ips and not specific games. I really think you are missing the point when i was refering to qaulity IPS.
@second bold- i accept your premise.

I was quite surprised that they announced a sequal to Zelda a link to the past.
Are these kinds of threads even able or willing to surprise anymore? Probably not.
They're a dime a dozen, news ones pop up every single day.
The thing about surprises is, if you expect them, they are not a surprise. So I do not expect to be surprised.

I think that the games Nintendo has been putting out the past few years have been pretty mind blowing. Xenoblade alone fills that, it is probably THE best jrpg to come out this entire generation, and on the Wii of all systems. Anyone who has played it has agreed and alot of critics have agreed. Smash bros will never get old and is mind blowing every time a new version is released. Skyward Sword was amazing too. Im pretty sure if Nintendo wanted to create a new IP, then they would easily be able to.
