Forums - Gaming - what a magical moment

My magical moments include going to Walmart shortly before the release of the N64 to sample Mario 64 on an official Nintendo display of the console. It was like nothing I've experienced at that time. The ease with which you moved Mario around and how fun doing just that was...

Here's some other magical moments of my gaming life:

I had waited years for this game back then, reading about it in obscure magazines and in the end, it blew me away. Rarely does a game meets and exceeds my expectations... And the score! Still my favourite in the whole series. And especially the theme playing in that video:

The game for which the Dreamcast was created for:

Of course, Final Fantasy VII. The first time you [finally] get out of Midgar and get a glimpse of the actual "world map".. It was an awesome feeling. And then you get plenty of hidden locations, multiple crazy vehicle types (The Buggy, of the Sunken Gelnika!)... Geat times.

But at the end, the ending to that game was probably the most magical moments of the whole experience. So here it is:

excellent game though I was a bit frightened back then...

haha why?

A lot of early games frigthtened me back then and I still feel uncomfortable while playing them from time to time.

the first few worlds in Mario 64 are fine but then I keep hearing the evil Bowser laughter, the ghosts start to appear, the levels are getting more and more weird and lonely (especially the water levels) and idk it's not comparable to any other Mario game IMHO.

Yeah, the first time I played this game over at a friend with 3 after only playing the (equally brilliant) SMW before...Mind=Blown^^

o.O You're only 17. I was playing Blops 2 before you were born, boy!

Yes, the first time I played this game was with 3 years in 1998. And yes, I played Super Mario World BEFORE that point. You'd be suprised how much Nintendo was incorporated into my childhood even though my first own console was a GCN bought back in 2006. My friends had all the consoles I needed^^

The magic moment in my childhood is when I first played Sonic Adventure 2 on Christmas Day. The first level is so awesome. You cannot deny that riding down those city streets on that metal board to that music was so cool. And that truck certainly made an impression.

I guess I should share my magic moment then. It was Gran Turismo along with my shining new Playstation. Before then, I knew nothing but Nintendo and look at me now

We really need a like button in VGC lol... LIKED!!!

This was actually an excellent post. The first one from you I enjoyed actually. Spot on

Games can and should tell stories and share ideas through their mechanics. This is the intrinsic element of the medium and this is how experiences should be crafted in video games. No company does this as well as Nintendo and their echoes from the past.

checked your profile and your 22, just a year older than me, im actually surprised i always assumed you were older.

yes some levels do seem kind of odd. the water levels do feel lifeless, i dont know if that is intentional or not. its weird i also had some fear in some levels (in the ghost level, the eating piano used to freak me out) though it was probably just because i was a kid. bowsers laughter didnt freak me out though. i havent played the galaxy games (yet) or mario sunshine so i cant really compare it with any other 3D mario game.

I never got very far in Super Mario 64, the plain look and not that great 3D control didn't make it my favorite. Wave race 64 was quite magical though, lovely water. And oot ofcourse.

For me the most magical was the first time I played civilization.
A friend brought it over and I was hooked instantly. I played it regularly for 2 years.

Doom and Descent brought me 3D magic. Before that 3D was very simple, wireframe or simple box shapes. Wolfenstein 3D might be the granddaddy but it didn't have the impact of Doom and Descent.

Actually that whole period was magical, from a bunch of black and white blocks and lines at the end of the 70's all the way to half-life. Multiple times a year there was something completely new and exciting, awesome 2 decades.

The ghost level was a little scary but I always found this ugly sea monster thing quite scary.
