I wonder if this will devalue the SNES original as a collectable. Now that it can be purchased cheap on the virtual console only the most hardcore collectors will want the carts.

maybe just a little bit. FF7 is still expensive despite being on PSN for years.

What is your definition of "expensive". You can buy a used copy of FF7 for less than it was new when it came out. On the other hand a used copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga goes for 5-6 times it's launch price.

the game is 119+ used, thats pretty expensive, but its 25.90 used, which isnt bad. To be fair this is the first time ive checked the pricing in YEARS, last time i checked it was 50 just for a used copy which is expensive considering its a ps1 game. Whether Panzer Dragoon or whatever cost more is irrelevant.

It is relevant. FF7 was released by the millions. That's why it's not as valuable on the secondary market today. Panzer Dragoon Saga is an example of a game that was released in the US in less than 30,000 copies. It's used value nas gone up while FF7 has gone down. Any out of print game is going to cost more today new than it did when it was still in production. The real show of value is in the used price because that what gamers pay to play, not just rich collectors with too much money in their pocket.

that goes without saying, just wasnt sure what panzer dragoon has to do with FF7 or what you were trying to prove. I still think 25 plus for a used copy of a PS1 game in 2013 is still much, thats still fifteen dollars more than it cost to just DL the thing of a PSN, especially if you just care about playing the game.

That's why I asked "What is your definition of 'expensive'." The word is relative.

I agree with you that FF7 has an inflated used price. There are millions of them out there, but there are also millions of fans. A common game can hold it's value if it continues to be popular. If Panzer Dragoon Saga had as many fans wanting to play it as FF7 the 30,000 Panzer Dragoon Saga copies out there would be worth an insane amount. I'd love to know if the PSN and PC digital versions of FF7 has effected the used price of the PSX original.

1. If I did make that song and someone released on the internet for free, and I made no efforts to copyright the material. I'm shit out of luck. Now, if someone was making money off of it by selling it online, then I agree you have a pretty strong case to shut the other parties down. Even then, there are several laws about free use, etc. that the mere distribution of it wouldn't be effected based on my permission (unless you argued it was done for defamation or other sinister reasons).

2. Every case I've ever read about in regards to piracy has mostly to do with distributors of content. I'd be worried if I owned or managed a site dedicated to the distribution of ROMs, but certainly being a consumer of one.

3. I believe it's true because I do it. I have a copy of Earthbound, but I'm not going to bring my SNES out of the closet to play it. I'll just download a convinent ROM and don't do with the hassle.

4. This can depend on a multitude of factors and semantics. Certain countries deal with these laws in different ways. I have first-hand knowledge that in some Asian countries that have no license or rights for the US, no effort they can make would be upheld or enforced in US courts.

I'll say, I'm no lawyer, but I've taken a few law classes and try to read up on cases and events regarding this sort of thing. Also, this is soooo off-topic.

1. No, copyright (in difference to patents) work wihtout you doing anything. If you create something, you have the copyright. You don't have to do anything for it.

2. Yes, because it is the easy point to make cases. The fines are usually higher and the lawyers can get more money for suing the distributors. That doesn't mean, that consuming pirated media isn't illegal. It is. But usually no one bothers. The catch here is USUALLY. Another catch is - if you use P2P, you not only downloading the stuff, but also distribute it.

3. No, it is illegal if you copied the ROM from the internet. At least in most countries (that is not so similar in each country). If you dump the ROM yourself, you can play it legally on the emulator. As long as you don't distribute it. And some countries disallow breaking a copy-protection in the process of copying. What counts as a copy-protection is a question for courts.

4. Hmm, probably the countries cannot bring their case to the court and enforce their rights. But is illegal to copy anyways. And if some local distributor gets the rights he can enforce it.

That said, I think all the copyright-stuff is stupidly overexaggerated. Yes, piracy is bad. But playing a game I couldn't play otherwise (or watch movies, hear music) should be allowed. Anime often is illegally copied, but otherwise it wouldn't come to the west in many cases in the first place. So we westerners would lose this culture. We need a copyright-reform, that allows people to do stuff, that doesn't harm the creator.

Doesn't take much to please Nintendo fans from what I see here

Go to amazon and search Earthbound.

Is that supposed to prove my point?

Not seeing an Xbox game worth that much.

On a more serious note, Nintendo fans wanted this for 20 years. This is pretty big.

Thats a loaded statement, considering all the 5+ million sellers 360 has had this generation, both multiplat and exclusive, and with Halo 4 numbers. Dont know why you felt a urge to attack my console of choice lol.

Im just saying.....this is a port. A port. Play this on a SNES emulator. This isnt huge at all, and my point has been proven.

BIG would be announcing a sequel. Talk to me when THAT happens.

Don't insult Nintendo fans. And I like to buy my games legally as do many others.

Maybe you just can't appreciate the fact that they're bringing something the fans wanted for a long time.

I dont see a sequel being announced. Jus saying. Nm, enjoy your game.

i suppose you can

Why is an 18-year-old SNES game such a Megaton? Not trolling, honestly curious.
